Chapter 12
Bonnie arrived, panting, at Espresso Breeze and immediately spotted Henry at the last table. He was chatting with a blonde waitress who was chuckling very seductively and with this sight came a disarming feeling of something akin to jealousy inside of Bonnie's chest.
But she wasn't jealous. She was with Kol, or at least she liked to think so, and it was all that mattered. However, a part of her couldn't help but feel annoyed by Henry's proximity with the waitress called Jessica as her badge indicated. She shook it off and sat down in front of him, and Jessica promptly fled, leaving them to their discussion.
"New toy?" Bonnie dryly asked, "Are you going to play with her emotions like you did with mine and then tell her that you're not interested?"
Henry sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"This is isn't fair," he started, "You and I were never meant to be and we both know that. I feel this connection between us, but that's it and you know it's the same for you too. I'm just worried that this connection that we're visibly both enjoying disappears forever if you're with Kol."
She escaped his cold glare at the mention of his brother's name. He had no clue that they had been in an intense make out session beforehand. It was probably better left this way.
Bonnie shrugged.
"So, what was the reason for this urgent call?" she asked, totally disinterested with Henry's arguments, "Kol couldn't come, had to pick Elijah up from the airport."
He sighed at her demeanor, but went on with what he had realized.
"I put two and two together. When Lucian told us about a spell my mother cast on a boy, transforming him into a creature who'd find quench in blood, I understood that the boy he mentionned was the killer we're looking for. My mother's behind all of these murders."
Bonnie's eyes grew wider. She couldn't understand how she did not see the connection before. She thought about Esther's recorded words once again. It was the day that he rose back to life that I understood that she knew about my plan. Fortunately, he was lost for twenty years, giving me time to plant a seed and watch it grow into a blossoming tree. It got out of control, but soon it'll all fall into place.
"So in the recording, the seed your mom said she planted, was the boy who she set to become a type of sub-vampire on his eighteen birthday, and that boy is your adversary."
"Meaning I'm supposedly the one who can defeat him," Henry completed, passing his fingers through his raven hair. "Not sure how I feel about that..."
"Well I'm not sure how I feel about witnessing two out of four of your siblings with a magical tattoo plastered across their skin," Bonnie confessed, confused and anxious. "I didn't tell Kol about the mark I saw on his back, but..."
"You saw Kol's naked back?" Henry exclaimed, raising his eyebrows upwards, "That would explain the hickey I spot right above your collarbone right now..."
Oops. Should've covered that up better.
She blushed uncontrollably, pulling her scarf further up to dissimulate the ultimate evidence of the trail of kisses Kol left everywhere. She avoided Henry's jealous glare.
"Anyways, if Elijah and Rebekah have the same mark I'm probably sure it would consolidate the fact that the killer and your mom are ultimately aiming to get rid of all vampires."
Henry shrugged the whole you-and-Kol-were-making-out-earlier argument that was building up his head and replied with :
"At what cost? Why would my mother go out of her way to kill her children along with their bloodlines?"
"That's the easy question. See, she transforms someone into a quasi-vampire without their consent and the only way for that person to become human again is to kill your family. Esther wants to feel like she's done well as a servant of nature by balancing out the evil of this world out. My only concern goes out to why the said boy would actually do it."
He clasped his hands together.
"What do you mean?"
"What I'm saying is, being a vampire isn't that bad. There has to be something else that pushed that boy to eradicate all vampires from this earth. Something stronger than just revenge over the world of the undead..."
Henry smiled, understanding.
"Something like love."
Bonnie nodded, satisfied with the straightforward way he worded her thoughts.
"I still don't know who's the witch who woke me up and how I could be the one to mess my mother's plan and why the spirits feared my apparently great power," he continued, "Something tells me knowing who grabbed me from death will be the key to understanding it all."
"And something tells me you two know why Elijah, Niklaus, Kol and now myself have all been marked," shouted a very blonde and very loud Rebekah Mikaelson, her heels clicking onto the floor, "Yeah, we still talk to each other."
Bonnie and Henry both looked at each other, mentally agreeing to lie. Knowing her impulsive character, they definitely weren't going to tell Rebekah anything on what they knew about the situation.
You were always better off with a good lie.
So they lied to her face, as well as Elijah's and Niklaus', but not to Kol's. They had to tell him, as he was an important part of their team. If they hadn't, they never would've thought out the amazing plan he came up with three days later, that somehow involved the human he dreaded the most.
"The killer doesn't have a preference towards a gender or an age, but what we do know is that all of the victims except for Enzo were all human and that we need a bait," Kol had described, leaning over the counter with an adorable boyish smile.
"And I suppose that would be me," sighed Matt, untying his apron and folding it.
"Thank you for volunteering," the Original vampire grinned.
Matt eyed Bonnie with a solemn expression and his gaze moved further to look up at Henry and then back at Kol. This trio was undeniably the weirdest thing ever.
"No way I'm doing this," the busboy said rolling his eyes.
"But that killer murdered your sheriff, your friend Enzo," Henry tried to force him to cooperate by using guilt.
Matt turned around to face each one of them and pointed out :
"Enzo was anything but a friend to me."
"But Jeremy was. And that merciless murderer still killed him, ripping his head apart from his body," Bonnie spoke, slowly, "You don't have to help us, but who's to say you won't become his next prey?"
"Fine," Matt conceded, "I'll do it. Just don't let me die okay?"
They all nodded, agreeing, clearly not knowing what was headed their way. Not at all.
