Chapter 6

It had been three weeks since Bonnie had last seen files concerning the investigation and fortunately, it had also been three weeks since the killer had stopped striking.

The town needed moments like these more than ever -no murders, no killer drama and no more danger. Everyone collectively started to breathe again and slowly but surely, calm reinstalled itself into safe and quiet Mystic Falls.

It was like every single fellow resident awoke from their hibernation at the same time and continued on with their lives.

Tonight, the Mystic Grill was more crowded than it ever was in the past month. Bonnie was almost struggling to get past the bunch of strangers that stood in her way to get to the booth Elena and Caroline were already both sitting at.

It had also been a while since the three of them organized a girls' night out, and they figured that now was the best time, since it was stress-deprived for all of them.

"What's up?" Bonnie greeted as she took the seat next to Elena and placed her purse against the table's leg.

The two girls looked up at her and nodded amicably.

"The usual, you know," Caroline began to pull her lips into a bitter smile, "Until someone discovers who killed my mom, I think I'll always be a little less than fine."

"To unsolved murder cases!" Elena sarcastically cheered, raising an invisible champagne flute.

"To everything that doesn't involve love," Bonnie exclaimed as she did the exact same gesture as her friend.

Caroline eyed her with widening eyes.

"Wait, what happened in that department?" she inquired, leaning forward in her chair, cocking her head sideways.

Whatever that was, she was interested. Her life was dull at the moment, a little drama to it could possibly only entertain her. These past couple of weeks, her mom's murder was all she yearned answers for, but she had to keep it silent. If a rumor got around the members of the community that the Sheriff died, they'd probably freak out and would spread the word around like smooth butter on bread. To everyone, Elizabeth was taking a month off in Colorado and Damon was temporarily remplacing her. Little did they know.

"Kol," Bonnie answered, "And Henry."

"Two Mikaelson battling for your love? What's your complaint again?" Elena joshed as she raised an eyebrow suspiciously.

The Bennett witch simply sighed and tucked a strand of her hair under the back of her ear. It wasn't as exciting as it sounded.

Recently, the matter of things between Henry and Kol had gotten worse. It seemed that the two brothers had declared war to one another and someone was definitely jealous -Bonnie guessed it was Kol.

Since the day he found her in a cabinet with his little brother, his attitude drastically changed. He acted more posessive towards her, like they actually had something.

He called her more often, randomly bumped into her at the grocery store -what would a vampire buy there anyways?- every once in a while and tried to ask her out each time he had the opportunity. He was clingy, but he met up with her to give her pertinent information about the investigation. Thanks to him, she now knew that the Augustine Society was decimated all accross the country after Wes' death. None of them lived in or near Mystic Falls anymore and they had been ruled out from the list of suspects.

Bonnie didn't know exactly why he was keeping her updated, but she did know that he indeed cared about her. That, she knew early on, back in the days when he used to wink in her direction each time their gaze met and she'd feel her cheeks heating up as she'd try to look away.
