Chapter 5
Skipping breakfast and lunch was probably a bad idea. The noises Bonnie's stomach was making were so loud, she swore Henry could hear them over the loud pop music that was blasting from the automobile's stereo.
They were in her car, heading to the Whitmore's campus, on their new quest for evidence concerning the eight different recent murders.
Sharing a roadtrip with Henry Mikaelson wasn't exactly what anyone would describe as amusing. He was clenching his fingers onto his seat, clearly not enjoying this locomotion.
"So tell me, what is it with you not liking being in cars? Shouldn't you be used to them? I mean, you said you've been alive for two decades. That's enough time to get accustomed to something."
"I prefer walking. I never really had to face my phobia of automobiles before now," Henry gritted, now holding onto his seatbelt like his dear life depended on it.
Bonnie subtly rolled her eyes, imperceptibly squeezing the wheel harder. She had to admit that it was quite funny to watch the lost Mikaelson, usually confident and tough-looking, trying to crawl onto his seat and looking at the road in disbelief.
She parked her car a few streets before their destination, in the hope that Damon or Kol wouldn't notice and recognize her vehicle and put a stop to their secret mission.
"Ready?" Bonnie probed as she undid her seatbelt and cocked her head towards Henry.
"I've never been this ready in my entire life," he affirmed, flashing one of his iconic smiles in her direction and getting out of his seat.
Didn't look like it in the car, she thought for an instant.
They walked over to the college's campus and Bonnie quickly recognized the different establishments. She swiftly made her way to what she remembered to be the official building where the Augustine society organized reunions and meetings. She also knew that all the files and information they needed were being stocked in its basement.
Henry snapped the doorknob open and immediately stepped a foot inside the property. The last owner, was probably dead or left the place to whomever would eventually find it and claim it.
A thought tingled Bonnie's mind. Where the hell were Kol and Damon at? They could and probably would bust in and catch Henry and herself doing stuff they shouldn't have been doing in a matter of time. They had to hurry up.
They followed each other down the stairs and walked past the cells, once used for torture, to the lab. It was worse than what Bonnie would have ever envisionned.
She could almost feel the pain the vampires that were held captive here once ressented. She opened up a drawer that revealed a bunch of scalpels and medical instruments. She opened another and found tons and tons of wipes.
"Bingo," she heard Henry utter as he slid open a huge cabinet full of files, "I think this is exactly what we need."
He took a folder and Bonnie hastened at his side to view it too. It was documents concerning Lorenzo. It read that his 'manipulative and impulsive personality' was 'hushed down' by the treatment he got and 'deserved'.
They flipped through different notes inside the cabinet when they finally reached the bottom of it and found a small recording tape. She took it and pressed on the play button on the side of the recorder.
A female voice slowly spoke through a thick foreign accent :
"It was the day that he rose back to life that I understood that she knew about my plan. Fortunately, he was lost for twenty years, giving me time to plant a seed and watch it grow into a blossoming tree. It got out of control, but soon it'll all fall into place."
