Chapter 9

She bashfully knocked twice on the pale birch entrance door of Kol's appartment. He had decided to move out from the mansion, seeing as the only people left in it were Henry who he despised and Niklaus who was spending most of his time with Caroline.

Bonnie didn't quite understand why one would purposely swap a residence like the Mikaelsons' for a regular studio, but then again, even though her mother decided to run out of her life, she never had as much family issues and therefore was in no position to hold any judgement against Kol.

He answered the door a few seconds later, water dripping from his wet brown hair and a soaked grey t-shirt tugging onto his defined torso. She didn't mean to stare, but Kol caught her anyway, an amused smile hiding underneath his cold surface.

His chromatic soft brown eyes scrutinized her to size her up and he sarcastically expressed :

"Got your call. Is Henry about to show up like yesterday?"

She lowered her head and peeped at her shoes, avoiding his glare. She looked up and replied :

"No. Actually, he's waiting downstairs in my car."

"You brought him along?" he insurged himself.

For he had been just a little more angered, his hair would've dried immediately under the heat of his rage. Bonnie lunged for his hand as she clutched it with her fingers. Kol was taken aback by the gesture, as it instantly melt off the frozen and passionless exterior he had built up, but didn't shake it off. In fact, it was what he had awaited for awhile now.

"Look, Henry could be listening to this conversation right now and I wouldn't give a damn," she mouthed, "All that matters to me is us, and I need to be completely honest with you."

Kol nodded, letting her in his appartment and leading her into the living room area, clinging onto the touch of her fingers for a fleeting moment before letting go of them.

"I'm listening," he indicated, taking a seat in the bright yellow armchair that was installed an inch away from his fake fireplace.

Bonnie sat down on the vapid blue-pigmented couch positionned perpendicularly to Kol's chair and couldn't help but notice the interior decor of his flat. A black and white chevron patterned carpet was laying underneath a low sheer glass table between the two of them. A few square lamps were suspended from the ceiling and they were lighting up the whole room. She never would've thought that the Original vampire sitting before her had such a great style in agencing furniture, but he always found a way to surprise her.

"Yeah, it's about what you said yesterday at the coffee shop, and what I didn't have enough time to say," she began, resting her palms on her knees, leaning towards him a little, "I wanted you to know that I don't exactly hate Henry. I still dislike his actions. Most of them. But he's the only person that doesn't underestimate me. That's why I wanted to work with him."

"So you're implying that I undervalue you? Because it's clearly what I understood to be intended."

"Well, you did say that it would've been better for me to stay in the archives room instead of investigating with you and Damon on the Augustine grounds," she countered.

He pinched the bridge of his slender nose with his index and his thumb, sighing.

"It's been a while since that incident you know," he bitterly chuckled, "Plus, you nearly got killed twice in the span of the same night, of course I thought that anywhere but outside was safer for you. I didn't want you to get hurt because I cared for you, not because I thought you were weak."
