"Considering you are backpack-less I'm guessing you didn't get it back."
"No," Max snapped and slouched in his seat further.
"It's in his locker," Hector said.
We were waiting for class to start and since Hector didn't have a seat since he's new he was sitting on top of Max's desk. Sara had ran off with Charlie somewhere, most likely to talk about gossip. So far, the new talk around school was Hector. Girls giggled and batted their eyelashes as we walked by. Some girls were kind enough to introduce themselves and some girls completely ignored Hector which he was grateful for. Some guys tried to already befriend him, noticing that he was definitely popular material. Even some of Victor's friends tried to talk to Hector. Of course, fortunately, they ignored my presence.
"So what you're saying is that I'll never see that backpack again? I had homework in there for this class!"
"Luckily, you won't need it," a man said, putting his things down and writing his name on the whiteboard.
"Substitute," Max mumbled and let out a sigh of relief.
Soon kids started pouring into the class and Hector went to go talk to the teacher. As soon as Caden walked in Max was glaring daggers at him with his arms crossed. Caden knew what he was doing to Max and the big smirk made it noticeable. They sat down and the first thing Max did was kick Caden.
"You little shit!" He whispered yelled and released a groan as he tried to rub his now sore leg.
"Give me back my backpack!" Max whispered yelled back.
"I missed you," Victor whispered when he noticed Max and Caden were too busy to listen.
I looked at him and he gave me a quick wink. I was doubting myself for a second that I even saw it but his grin told me that he did. I chuckled and shook my head at him. At least he wasn't upset and everything seemed good.
"I missed you too," I whispered.
"Alright class! I guess you have a new student joining you. Just go ahead and have a seat anywhere. Anyways, I am Mr. T! Your teacher didn't have a direct assignment and just said to finish your homework from last night if you didn't. Otherwise, you have a free period. No moving seats and I'm not gonna bother telling you no phones. Just work on something, please."
Right away people began chatting away and messing around. Hector sat next to Sara since a student from her group was absent. Needless to say, it was a good period, apart from Max almost murdering Caden. Actually, I would've been fine with it if he did. By the time lunch had rolled around Max still didn't have his backpack back. There was a major conference for the teachers in the morning so there was a lot of substitute teachers. That allowed Max to get away with not having his homework but he had had enough when lunch came. The first thing he did was meet Caden at his locker, grabbed the front of his shirt, and demanded him to give him back his backpack.
"Just give it back, man," Victor said and rolled his eyes at a glaring Caden.
"Fine, as long as you leave me alone now," Caden growled and shoved Max off.
"Gladly," Max snapped back and roughly grabbed his backpack once Caden got it. "Wait, where's my stuff?"
"You said you'd leave me alone once you got your backpack. So bye."
"Caden! Give me back my stuff!"
And they were off down the hall. It was just Hector, Victor, and myself now and to say it was awkward is an understatement. I was glad when I heard Sara and Charlie call us out and when they joined Sara took all of Hector's attention.
"Shouldn't we go get the permission slips for the camping trip? A teacher said they're only letting 48 students from each school year to go. First come, first serve," Charlie said.
"Oh, shit. I need to get mine and a couple of my friends some too," Victor said and grabbed my arm. "Let's go get some together? We'll be back in time and will probably be back before Caden and Max get back."
"Yeah, Diego! Go ahead! I'm gonna show Hector around with Charlie and we will meet you back here in twenty!"
"I don't think we'll take that lon-"
"Okay, bye!" Sara yelled and rushed Charlie and Hector down the hall.
"You got good friends there," Victor said with a chuckle and quickly pulled me to an empty classroom. "Since we have twenty minutes and the office isn't even a five minute walk away, let's make the best of it."
I couldn't help the laugh that came from my mouth as he picked me up and placed me on a desk, giving me a deep kiss. His lips were soft and showed me what he wanted. He left my lips but I wanted more and so before he could pull away fully I brought him right back to me and kissed him more. His hands held my waist while mine were wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer. He released a breathless chuckle and placed soft kisses on my neck.
"Is this your way of showing me you missed me?"
"Mm, there's other ways I can show you."
"Victor!" I said embarrassed.
He faked gasped and said, "You dirty minded boy! I was thinking of cuddles!"
I playfully pushed him away and he laughed, pulling me even closer to him. He gave me another kiss, this one sweet and romantic. When he pulled away he had a smile so wide, so beautiful, so full of happiness. It made me beam with joy that I was the one making him smile like that.
"You know, you're perfect. You're just, you're so understanding that it's beautiful. You are kind and gentle when needed. You make others laugh and smile. You really are a sunshine," Victor said, placing a kiss on my forehead and making me blush. "I'm happy that I can call you my sunshine."
"Thank you, Vi-"
"Shh!"
I immediately became quiet and that's when I heard Sara's voice. Way to ruin the romantic moment. They were just outside the door and if they walked in they'd see us. I looked around and silently cursed when I saw that we were in the ceramics room. The ceramics room was a bit different from any other classroom. The teacher's desk was up in front and there was only two rows of long desk that reached all the way to the back. There was only two rows because on the side were ceramics supplies, the sinks, and the pottery wheels. The good thing was that the chairs were stools and there was enough room for a person to hide under the tables, which is exactly what Victor and I did. He hid under a table and I hid in the table beside him.
"And this is where your ceramic class is! I would've showed you this class first if I knew you had it. It's right by Caden's locker. But now I can show you where weight lifting is!" She said and closed the door.
We waited another minute or two before slowly coming out from our hiding spots. Thankfully, weight lifting was on the other side of the school so there was no way they would be near here. Victor looked at me and suddenly bursted with laughter. I threw a paintbrush I found at him which only made him laugh more. Meanwhile I was trying to calm down my fast beating heart. We almost got caught!
"Alright, I think we should actually get the permission slips now," he said after all his laughter.
He helped me up and he opened the door first to see if anyone was there. When the cost was clear we quickly walked out and I had to shove Victor because he began to laugh again. We almost got caught for crying out loud! Though this made me wonder, was he getting closer to being ready to come out? He doesn't seem worried at all while I am on the verge of having a heart attack.
"Hey, Victor?"
"Yeah?" He asked, a big smile still on his face.
I opened my mouth to ask him but I ended up freezing up. He seemed in a really good mood right now and I didn't want to ruin it. Why start something that you don't feel like finishing? Why ruin something beautiful? I wasn't going to worry. If he was ready then he would tell me.
"Beat you there!"
"Oh you little. . . Come back here!" He shouted and chased after me.
I laughed and ran down the halls, Victor laughing and running after me. We were good. We were in a good place. There's no need to ruin that. We were happy.
