Eli stood in front of his door, looking at Aesop with an expression devoid of energy. He shifted a little to the side to make room for Aesop to enter. Aesop timidly entered and Eli closed the door behind him.

Eli went up the stairs without saying anything to go to his room and Aesop soon followed him. The two boys sat in the room without speaking. Finally, it was Eli who decided to break the silence.

"Since when...?"

"I don't know... I found out the day I went to visit Norton..."

"I see."

Silence fell once again. Aesop didn't know what to say to comfort Eli. Did he even forgive him for hiding the truth ? While Aesop was lost in his thoughts, he heard Eli whose tears had started to flow down his face again.

Unconsciously, Aesop approached him and took him in his arms. Eli was a little surprised at first but he returned the embrace, burying his face in Aesop's chest. They stayed like that for a few long minutes until Eli decided to pull away much to Aesop's disappointment.

"Thanks Aesop..."
he mumbled.

"You're welcome... I didn't do much though..."

Eli laughed softly before resting his head on Aesop's shoulder.

"You've always been there for me in hard times like this..."

"I'm only returning the favor..."

"Maybe, but I'm still grateful to you so... I hope you don't torment yourself too much about
it. I know you have a tendency to worry about the smallest things."

"You mean that you forgive me?"

"There's no reason why I should be angry with you in the first place."

"But... I lied to you and-"

Eli took Aesop's face in his hands at that moment. His gaze darted to Aesop's, making him blush slightly at the sudden touch that was both sweet and bitter.

"Aesop."

"Y-yes...?"

"You and I are best friends, there's no way I could ever hate you !"

The same smile that Aesop loved so much spread across Eli's face, but somewhere inside him he felt a twinge of sadness when Eli said that they were best friends. It reminded him of his place and the fact that he would never be anything more to him. It was silly of him to even think that something could happen.

"Aesop ?" he called to him, noticing that he seemed to be in deep thought.

"S-sorry..."

"You can tell me everything you know..."

How could he tell him ? How would Eli react if he found out that his friend who was the same gender as him had feelings stronger than friendship towards him ? He might be disgusted and decide to cut ties with him and that was what Aesop dreaded the most.

"E-everything is fine..."
he said, forcing a smile to reassure him.

Eli gave him back his smile. He then let go of Aesop's face that he was still holding until now. Aesop would have liked to feel Eli's skin on his a little longer but he quickly chased away that thought.

"Ahhhh! What a fool I was to let myself be tricked like that !" sighed Eli.

"You couldn't know..."

"That's right... Hey, Aesop..."

"Hm ?"

"You won't betray me, will you?"

That day, Aesop did not answer Eli. He couldn't say yes to him because he felt like he had already betrayed him by loving him that way. He left Eli's house without saying anything, leaving him on the floor of his room without an answer.
