The next day, Eli had left his house still a little shaken by the declaration he received from his best friend. He blushed as he recalled that moment. He wasn't too sure what he was feeling but somewhere deep inside his chest he could feel a warm sensation for some unknown reason.

The sky was gray, as if to announce a bad omen to Eli. But he didn't think about it for long before he started walking. Once he got to the school, he needed to see Aesop to talk about the previous day. He didn't have time to finish what he had to say after Aesop ran off. He then headed to Aesop's classroom, thinking that he would surely be there since he used to get up early.
Except this time, Aesop's seat was empty.

"Eli ?"

Eli turned to the voice, it was Norton.

"Ah, Norton. Have you seen Aesop ?"

"I just got here so no. He's not here ?"

"Seems not..."

"I see."

"Err... I'll leave you then..."

Eli was about to turn back to his classroom when Norton put his hand on his shoulder.

"How do you feel about Aesop ?"

Eli widened his eyes at Norton's question, he was probably expecting everything but that. But it rang in his head, how did he feel about Aesop? Honestly, after everything that had just happened, even he wasn't sure anymore.

"Just don't break his heart. He's been through enough as it is for your sake."

Norton's words had the effect of a dagger to Eli but he didn't respond because he knew he was right.

When class ended, Eli quickly put his things away to hurry to Aesop. He felt a strange adrenaline rush through him and before he knew it, he was running to Aesop's house, not even noticing that it had started to rain cats and dogs as well.

He stopped to catch his breath, then once his breathing returned to a more regular rhythm he pressed the doorbell with determination. He waited a moment but no one came so he pressed it a second time just in case, starting to worry about Aesop.

But this concern quickly disappeared when he heard the sound of a handle moving. Aesop had just opened the door but he didn't seem to be in the best of shape. He was wearing a mask when he didn't wear one when he was at home and you could see beads of sweat beading from his forehead.

"E-Eli..?"

"Woah Aesop ?! You really don't look so good..."

"I-I guess... I caught a slight cold..." he said before starting to cough.

The next moment, Aesop's body began to tilt forward but Eli quickly caught it by putting his arms around Aesop's feverish body, letting out a sigh of relief.

"It's not exactly what I would call 'light'..."

"S-sorry..."

The young man fainted in his arms after uttering that last apology. Eli sighed once more before closing the door and carrying Aesop in bridal style. As he ventured into the quiet house, his gaze fell on a picture frame that sat on the commode.

A child with his parents could be seen. That's when Eli remembered something. The death of Aesop's mother. She died in a car accident on a rainy day like this. The boy's father went on a business trip abroad after that and barely communicated with him, just sending a package with a few branded items on his birthday.

Since this incident, Aesop often got sick on days of heavy rain. Eli used to come and take care of him on such days since there was no one at home to do so.

After thinking about the past, he cautiously went upstairs with Aesop and laid him on his bed and pulled the blanket up over him before dropping down next to the bed and looking at Aesop's sleeping face.

"I'm the one who should be sorry..."
