Chapter 8- The Expedition

We were now on our horses ready to leave the walls and explore beyond.

Eren rode to the left of me and to the right of Petra, in front was Levi, and Gunther, Olou, and Eld rode behind us.

Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Connie, Sasha, Historia, and Ymir were also somewhere in the formation as they had recently become members of the survey corps. I was surprised that Jean was now part of the survey corps, I thought for sure he was going to join the military police.

My hands began to shake slightly at the thought of the titans. they had brought so much death and destruction into our lives. They could kill anyone of my friends on this mission.

Eren took notice of my uneasiness and rested his hand gently on mine. He looked into my eyes, reassuring me that everything was going to be okay.

He couldn't have been more wrong-

3rd person POV

--time skip to 31 minutes later----

The survey corps was riding through the unexplored land. The sounds of their horse's feet echoing through the fields. Around them was long grass, hills, a few trees, and pretty pink flowers but... no titans.

It had been 30 minutes into the expedition and there was not a single titan in sight.

Everyone was so relieved, but you had this uneasy feeling in your gut. Something wasn't right.

"captain Levi- have you ever had an expedition like this," you say to the short man riding in front of you.

"no, I have not. There are always titans chasing after us as soon as we leave that gate. But apparently, they lost their appetite today." Levi says with not a slight bit of worry on his face. Just his usual emotionless expression.

But only a few seconds later Levi's normally straight face with no emotion, held his mouth agape and opened his eyes wide.

On the horizon, the scouts saw a skeleton-like titan with pointy ears (founding titan) with 80 15m titans standing beside it on either side.

Your heart throbbed and you looked over to Eren. He was staring at the titan in the distance with anger. Eren clenched the reins attached to his horse in his fists and muttered under his breath, "you finally decided to show up you bastards,"

This was no match that the scouts could win, there were too many of them in one place.

"RETREAT!!" Erwin yells and blue smoke fills the air.

The people who were paralyzed from fear were now screaming and racing their horses in the opposite direction. But as soon as the signals were let off 20 of the titans broke out of their alignment, running straight towards the group of scouts.

You knew that there was no way that the scouts were fast enough to outrun these titans. They are too fast... the only thing to do is to take them down and buy time for the others to escape.

You and Eren look at each other with the same idea on your mind, you both jump off your horses. Eren then raises his hand to his mouth and chomps down.

Light fills the area and is soon after replaced with Eren's titan. You look in awe at the sight before you. You had seen it almost hundreds of times now in you and Eren's experiments with Hange but it never got old.

The ugly titan that stood on the horizon watching the titans swarm us muttered something along the lines of "so it is you... your the one who killed my wife," but you thought you were hallucinating as titans can't even talk.
