She's a broken girl in a broken world, forced to fake a smile.———————————————————
Nicole's POVI turned with everybody else to the screaming. My eyebrows knitted together as I saw Thomas and Minho were fleeing from something. Something was wrong because fleeing is bad. It's very very bad.
Suddenly, these creatures came barreling after them as the two boys ran for their lives. Once my eyes landed on them I knew the creatures were cranks. And with my time at the facility I've learned if you see a crank running at you, run the other way.
"Oh, fuck." I muttered out in a squeak as I tightened my backpack on my shoulders. I glanced over to Aris who lost his balance while fumbling with his flashlight. Flashlight: 1, Aris: O.
This was going to be fun.
I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. Which wasn't that fast with my bum leg, so I found myself practically being dragged along by Newt. I looked behind us to see Thomas and Minho getting closer, but so were the cranks.
"Run! Run! Run!" I shouted to the two boys as I tried to pick up my pace. What I would give for a new leg.
We ran and ran and my leg kept giving a constant reminder every time I put it done that this wasn't a running leg anymore. "Hey, come on Nicole." Newt said taking a second to slow down for me as we came upon a broken escalator.
"Thomas! Minho! What the hell are those things?" Winston shouted over to them. "I don't know. Just keep going!" I took the risk of looking behind us to see the blank veined creatures right on our tails. "Shit." I breathed out, uncomfortable at how close they were getting.
"Come on." Teresa called out when we reached the top of the old escalator. "Just keep moving!" Thomas reminded us though we all jumped back when another crank came crashing down right in front of us. The others screamed while I just threw up my hands. "Oh. Come. On!"
My annoyance morphed into fear as I watched Aris pick up a bar and run strait at the crank. "Aris! No!" I screamed, but that boy is really stubborn and really dumb. I expected something horrible to suddenly happen to Aris as he met his fate, but instead he ducked under the crank wacking it in the legs, sending it tumbling towards the ground.
"Huh," I commented at the intuitive before grabbing Aris's hand. "Don't ever do something as stupid like that again." Aris nodded, but I sighed as we continued on. "What the hell am I saying. Stupid is your middle name."
The group split in two as we ran up another set of escalators. A shriek from a crank rang out and it sounded a lot closer than it should have been. I took the risk to look behind, but the next thing I knew something gripped my ankle and my face connected to the stairs.
