'Instinct is something which transcends knowledge. We have, undoubtedly, certain finer fibers that enable us to perceive truths when logical deduction, or any other willful effort of the brain, is futile.'
{Nikola Tesla}

Sometimes suffering is just suffering. It doesn't make you stronger. It doesn't build character. It only hurts.
————————————————— Nicole's POV
Me, Thomas, and Aris all looked down at the smooth floor below the vent. "This is it." Thomas said nodding his head. You've got this far. Don't screw it up for them now, Nick.
Thomas kicked the shaft open and jumped down, then Aris, then me. When I landed I nearly fell over considering I had to jump out of the ceiling and land on one foot, but Aris caught me. "Thanks," I murmured as the boy steadied my on my feet. Ever since I hurt my leg Aris had been there for me. I knew he felt bad for it because he thought it was his fault that I was stung. The truth was sooner or later it was going to happen anyway.
Thomas looked around making sure no one was coming while Aris closed the vent shaft. "Okay, we're all good." Thomas said so I took out the key card. I swiped it against the door and it let out a beep before the door opened up.
As we peered in my eyes went wide. There was a room that was lit in a cool blue color. "What the hell?" I questioned under my breathe as we entered the room. There were rows and rows of these creatures that were held in some sort of pods. I followed behind Thomas as we arrived to the second pair of doors. We all shared a look before they opened up.
I felt something inside of me shatter as I saw what was on the other side of the door. Maybe it was grief, guilt, maybe it was my humanity or fear. But when I saw what was behind those doors a new feeling washed over me like a tidal wave, drowning me in emotions.
Bodies.
Kids, teens all people. People lined up in rows with tubes and machinery sticking out of them as if it was a part of them. Despite the scene I urged my feet to move on with Thomas and Aris.
When my eyes landed on one I let out a gasp. It was a young boy I had seen at the cafeteria the day we arrived here. He was one of the boys that jumped up to the front of the room, so excited and happy. I reached out to him my hand only hovering over the body when it hit me.
