The ground may be caving in
And some wounds, they may never mend
But we will rise up and try again—————————————————
Third Persons POV:A soft repetition of clicks echoed through the abandoned hallways. A hallway that held so much history, and all of it was lost so quickly. It's funny how such a simple thing can have such meaning. Someone might have been proposed to in that hallway. Someone might have been fired in that hallway. Someone might have received news of losing a loved one in that hallway.
And now in that hallway one of the most greatest minds to ever walk the Earth limped along it with two crutches tucked beneath her.
Nicole let out another angry groan like she had been for the last two hours. And, like for the past two hours, Newt gave a smile smile before giving her arm a supportive rub. Nicole was not taking life on crutches well. She couldn't go as fast as she liked, she couldn't carry much, she felt as if her freedom was snatched up away from her.
"This is so stupid." The inventor grunted out before plopping down in a seat and tossing her crutches away. The brunette folded her arms and to Newt she looked like a toddler who was just put in timeout.
"You can't walk as well, and you shouldn't walking be in the first place, after the surgery." Newt said calmly as he picked up the crutches and leaned them against the wall next to Nicole.
Nicole huffed and sank down into her chair. "Look," Newt said kneeling down in front of her and taking one of her hands in his. "I know that this isn't the most ideal thing, but we already talked about this."
Nicole's brown pupils flickered from their intwined hands to Newts eyes as the latter drew circles around her rough hands. "There's a 50-50 chance of you being able to walk again. But we can't risk your stitches coming un-done and leading to permanent damage so for now..."
Newt trailed off as he leaned over and grabbed the crutches. "Try."
Nicole looked at the crutches with such despondence. "It's already permanent though, Newt." The words rolled off of her tongue as this was the hard truth Nicole had been facing for a while now. No matter how much surgery or rest or medicine she gets this is something that won't go away. This won't just heal. This isn't something that gets better.
Newt softly grabbed Nicole's chin and lead it up so he could look her in the eyes. "You can do it, Nick. I know you can and I know that you have to know it too. You are the most brilliant person I've ever met and I'm bloody sure that after everything that's happened with the maze some bloody crutches aren't going to stop you know."
