Chapter 54

After Kevin went to the hospital, Aaliyah went to go see Dre.

Dre opened the door.

"That was outta pocket and outta line. You had no right to do that", Aaliyah said as she walked in the house.

"Fuck him", Dre said as he shut the door. "With his dumbass"

"Dre, what are you taking?", Aaliyah asked.

"I ain't taking shit", Dre said.

"Dre, what are you on?", Aaliyah asked.

"...the same thing that's been in your apartment", Dre replied.

Aaliyah made a face.

"Wait... how would you even know that?", Aaliyah asked. "It's in my room"

"Not anymore", he said. "I saw it and I took so you wouldn't use it but I ended up using it for myself"

"How did you get in my apartment Dre?", Aaliyah asked.

"Adrienne's key", Dre replied. "I went there after i saw you with Kevin and I drop her off. I was waiting for you and I was being nosey but um...it took you a while to show up so I left"

Aaliyah shook her head.

"Look, unlike you I don't get addicted from this shit. I just use it for the feel of it when I got a lot on my mind. Alright?", Dre said.

"Do you not see the way you're acting Dre? You're going back to your own ways", Aaliyah said.

"What do you mean? Back to being alone?", Dre asked.

"You have your children", Aaliyah said.

"They're going to college soon. Then what?", Dre asked.

"I'll be alone too, Dre. And maybe alone is what we need", Aaliyah said.

Dre sat down.

"...I can't let you go I'm sorry", Dre said. "Even though being with you has been one hell of a rollercoaster, you keep me sane. I don't know if you noticed but I've calmed down a lot since being with you. I was hot head and I didn't give a fuck about what I did but since I've been with you, since we've been married, I've became a better me", Dre said.

Aaliyah sat next to him.

"I know you have but..you can continue to do that. I'm not going anywhere physically. I will always be here for you, but I just can't be with you", Aaliyah said.

Suddenly, Dre shed a tear.

"I'm sorry about aiming that gun at you", he said.

"It's okay", Aaliyah said.

"I'm not sorry about shooting Kevin though. I've been waiting for that shit even before I started dating you", Dre said.

Aaliyah shook her head with a slight smile.

"You're crazy", Aaliyah said.

"I just don't like him", Dre said.

"I can see", Aaliyah said. "But please, don't do that again okay? To anybody. I mean I get that you have do you what you have to do with Killa but-

"Actually, I'm done. He said that I've paid my debt and I could be done if I wanted to and I am", Dre said.

"Really?", Aaliyah asked.

"Yea", Dre replied. "I've been meaning to tell you but...I came home to a divorce", Dre said.

Aaliyah looked down.

"One that I'm going to have to accept", Dre said.

Aaliyah looked at him then looked back down.

"You mean the world to me and I need to show you that you do by just giving you want you want", Dre said.

Aaliyah looked at him.

"What I want is peace", Aaliyah said. "Peace and control over my life...no more lies...no more you still having feeling for someone else", Aaliyah said.

"I don't have feelings for her alright. I told you that. Do I love her? Yes. But not the type of love that me you share...it's more so family type love", Dre said.

"And I should believe that", Aaliyah asked.

"100%", Dre said.

Aaliyah sighed and shook her head.

"...but you mentioned peace and control", Dre said. "We can have that together"

Aaliyah looked at him.

"Hear me out", Dre said.

"Okay. I'm listening", she said.

"We can be separated, not divorced, and you can still stay in your apartment. You can work on whatever you wanna work on and still figure out if you wanna be with. T-"

Aaliyah interrupted him. "Dre I-"

Dre interrupted her. "I know you said you've mad your mind up but you don't really know if you have because you're upset. When you calm down, you realize you've made a mistake. Just hear me out...now once the kids graduate and you still think it's right we get a divorce then that can happen. If you decide that you still want me then we can move. Move out of the country, on one of the islands and finally be at peace", he said. "Finally be away from the violence, our past, everything"

"What about the kids?", Aaliyah asked. "We'll be miles away from them"

"We can always visit and I will always make sure that they have the money they need", Dre said. "Besides, they'll be in college and I think it's time we finally give them that freedom they've been asking for. Through trial and errors, they've learned their lessons. We've taught them things about the real world. They know what's right from wrong. They have matured and I can finally say that I trust them", Dre said.

Aaliyah was quiet.

"What if they don't want us to move?", Aaliyah asked.

"We're going to talk about with them when that time comes....you still have to make your decision", Dre said.

Aaliyah looked away.

"....and you don't love her in the way that I think you do right?", Aaliyah asked.

"Right", Dre replied.

Aaliyah sat there for a moment then she got up.

"I'll think about it", Aaliyah said.

"...okay", Dre said.

Aaliyah looked at him.

"If there is any chance of us staying together. You cannot sneak into my apartment. You cannot shoot anyone like you did together. You can't be aggressive with me. And most of all you just gotta let me be like you've been doing for these past few weeks and give me space to think. Deal?", Aaliyah said.

"...no dating?", Dre asked.

"No", Aaliyah replied.

"What about hanging out with ole boy. Cause I really think his ass is tryna be sneaky", Dre said. "Besides, you know as soon as you would see me somewhere with one of my ex's this divorce would go straight through"

"I won't hang out with him like that and if I do. Jeremiah and Adrienne will be with us", Aaliyah said.

"Then deal", Dre said.

Aaliyah shook her head. "I'm going back to my apartment", she said. "I'm tired"

"Alright. See you later than I guess", Dre said.

Aaliyah nods then walks out of the house.

Dre sat back and thought to himself. He Was actually doubting that she would call the divorce off, which made him feel kinda alone. The type of alone that he felt that he was going to have to get used to.
