Chapter 32

When Aaliyah got to Carmen's house, the kids came running to hug her.

"Mom!", Adrienne shouted.

"Hey girls", Aaliyah said with a sad voice.

Andrea looked up at Aaliyah.

"Whats wrong mom?", Andrea asked.

"Nothing...just go to the guest rooms. I have to talk to Carmen for a moment", Aaliyah said.

"Is dad okay?", Andrea asked.

"Dad is fine", Aaliyah said.

"Well he be okay?", Adrienne asked.

"Yes. Just no upstairs please. Just for like 5 minutes and then we'll go", Aaliyah said.

"Where are we going?", Andrea asked.

"...it's a surprise. Just go", Aaliyah said.

Andrea and Adrienne went upstairs.

"Why does it look like you're about to tell me bad news? What happened?", Carmen asked.

"... did the kids tell you what happened?", Aaliyah asked.

"Yea", Carmen replied.

"Well Kevin knows these guys", Aaliyah said. "I would've died if it wasn't for him"

"Kevin?", Carmen asked. "Killa's brother?"

"And my ex", Aaliyah said.

"Damn...but what's wrong about that?", Carmen asked.

"Nothing...", Aaliyah said.

"So what's wrong with you?", Carmen asked.

"They want Dre to suffer. He wants Dre to have everything and anything taken away from him", Aaliyah said. "I had a choice"

"Divorce Dre, tell him where he was, or die", Aaliyah said. 

"...I'm guessing you chose death", Carmen said softly.

"...til' death do us part right?", Aaliyah asked.

"What about your kids?", Carmen asked.

"I would rather have Dre be the only living parent than me... if he dies I wouldn't know what to do with myself and I don't want the kids to see me like that", Aaliyah said.

"...why would they want you to divorce him?", Carmen asked changing the subject.

"So me and the kids would be safe", Aaliyah said.

"So why didn't you just go with that?", Carmen asked.

"So Dre would still end up dead?", Aaliyah asked. 

"It's the choice he would want you guys to make", Carmen said.

Suddenly, Aaliyah's phone began. She didn't know the number but she answered it anyway and put it on speaker.

"Hello?", Aaliyah answered.

"You know, you're lucky", a man's voice said over the phone. It was the same man that stabbed her.

"And you want be if your hurt my husband", Aaliyah replied.

"And neither will a ...Carmen Johnson. That's your maiden name right? Y'all related?", he asked. "I sure do hope so because looking at her picture, she looks just like you"

"How do you know about her?", Aaliyah asked.

"Because that's where you are", he replied.
