The only thing that woke me up that morning was the sound of my alarm going off. I sighed and turned it off before slowly rolling onto the other side of my bed. I really didn't want to get out of bed that morning, but I knew I needed to get into work or I'd be fired. I had finally started a new job and I didn't want I get fired during my first few weeks working there.
I got up and made my way to the bathroom, quickly taking a shower and getting out. Grabbing my uniform, I changed and was ready in 15 minutes. I made sure to tiptoe through the living room, hoping not to wake Laney up. But, to my surprise, she was up and on the couch.
"What are you doing up?" I asked as I looked at the clock. "It's 7 in the morning,"
"I couldn't sleep," She shrugged.
"I'm sure," I rolled my eyes. "Who'd you bring home last night?"
"You can't be mad at me," She replied as I tilted my head to the side, confused as to why I would be mad at her.
"Why would I be mad?" I asked confused and that's when a figure emerged from her room.
"Laney, what the fuck?" I asked as I made eye contact with him.
"Beck, it just happened. We didn't plan for it," She said as I couldn't keep my eyes off him.
"So, you just slept with Charlie? Knowing everything that's been going on with us?" I fume.
"Babydoll," He said as I shook my head.
"No," I spit. "You don't get to call me that after sleeping with my best friend. What the fuck is wrong with both of you?"
I grabbed my things and stormed out of the apartment, not stopping when Laney was calling my name. I couldn't believe she did something like that to me, I thought we were best friends. Hell, she even said she hated the guy!
I grabbed my phone from my pocket, calling work to tell them I was feeling great and I couldn't come in. It may be cowardly of me to not go in, but everything that's happened to me, it makes a lot of sense. Everything in my life just seems to be crumbling in front of me and there's nothing I can do about it.
I got in my car and drove to the only place I knew to go, Owens. Hoping I wasn't waking him, I knocked on the door and to my surprise, he was at the door with a smile on his face.
"Hey, Beck," He said smiling at me.
"Can I come in? I've had an awful morning," I said as he nodded and opened the door more.
I walked into his apartment and was engulfed in a beautiful smell. It smelled like firewood, but in a good way.
"What happened?" He asked as I sat on his couch.
"Laney slept with an ex," I said as his facial expressions didn't change a bit. "My ex,"
"What the fuck," He said as his face went from happy to upset for me.
"Exactly what I said when I saw him walk out of her room. I'm not completely sure why she even did it, she hated him after we broke up," I lied a bit.
I guess you could say Charlie and I did break up, but not in the traditional way. We never actually dated but we did have something going on, so I'm considering it a breakup.
"I just needed somewhere to go and escape them," I said running my hands over my face.
"You can stay here as long as you need to, Beck," He said pulling me into his side and hugging me.
I smiled at the boy beside me and felt happy. Laney was right about one thing, and it was Owen.
