When I was five, I broke my arm. I was hanging off the limb of a tree, thinking I was the queen of the world. The limb broke and fell, my arm breaking my fall. When I was six, I broke the same arm doing the same thing. I never learned from the experience and I kept doing it every year until I turned 10. I have a tendency to do things that continuously hurt me and maybe that's how things were with Charlie. Though he's only hurt me once, it's bound to happen again, right?

I sat up in my bed as the alarm went off on my phone. Another sad day. I woke up with a pit in my stomach, like something was missing. I didn't know what it was. I stared at the wall, unable to process my thoughts of the past two days. Maybe Charlie wasn't lying. But, a part of me wants to believe he was.

There was no way he would break up with someone who looked like Adrianna and then choose to like me. I knew there was something he wasn't telling but I couldn't put my finger on it. When I was younger, I always believed that love was a fairy tale. But growing up, I knew I was wrong. I saw how hard it was with my parents and how many fights they got into since I could physically remember.

The alarm continued to ring through my head, causing me to get annoyed. I grabbed the phone, turned it off, and threw it on the floor. I huffed at my sudden rage and got up. I rolled my eyes as I got to, not wanting to even leave the house today.

"Beckett, you got 10 minutes to get ready," Laney called from the next room.

I quickly looked at my clock and wondered why she lied about the time. I had an hour until I needed to be in class, definitely not 10 minutes. I walked towards the kitchen, cocking an eyebrow at her.

"We have an hour until class," I said looking at her.

"Doesn't mean you can't be ready early," She said as she grabbed her toast out of the toaster.

"That's exactly what that means, Laney," I chuckle at her.

"Just get dressed and come out here when you're ready," She said rolling her eyes.

I went towards my room, locking the door as I walked towards my bathroom. The music playing from my phone was sad and it definitely matched my mood at the moment. 'For The Love of a Daughter,' by Demi Lovato played over the speaker making my mood even sadder. That song could make a grown man cry.

Your selfish hands
Always expecting more
Am I your child?
Or just a charity award?

The song always brought flashbacks from my childhood. Though I tell everyone my dad was cool and amazing, he wasn't always like that.

"Beckett, get your ass in here!" He yelled with such force.

I quickly ran out of my room and towards the kitchen where he was. My hands were shaking of the thought that he was mad.

"Yes, daddy?" I said looking up at him.

He was very much taller than me at 8 years old, I couldn't stand a chance.

Without a word, his hand connected with my face causing me to stumble back. Tears pricked my eyes as he continued to look at me with evil eyes.

"You're such a piece of shit," He spat out, alcohol on his breath.

I froze in fear, unable to speak. This was not an unusual thing, it always happened when he was drinking. Sometimes it was better than others, only getting a small slap or a hard punch.

"Sometimes, I wish your mother aborted you when she had the chance," He said slapping me once again

I ran to my room, tears in my eyes. Sure, I was used to all the abuse he puts me through. But that didn't mean it didn't hurt. I was only 8 and he thought of me as his human punching bag.
