"Dear Seokjin, no, that doesn't sound right!"

"Okay! Okay! Hey, Jin,"

"No that sounds wrong too!"

"Ugh!" Hoseok softly pulled at his hair in frustration. He had been trying to write a love letter to his sister's boyfriend and couldn't find the write words to start it.

Now, he knew this would sound wrong, but he swears it's not. Before Kim Seokjin was Jung Jiwoo's boyfriend, he was Hoseok's best friend and secret crush. Hoseok remembers meeting Seokjin when he was seven during one bright afternoon. In all honesty, the details are a little blurry in his mind but he remember the basic gist of it. Hoseok spotted Seokjin moving in the house next door and invited him to play for a bit, the older agreeing quickly and rushing to ask his parents. From then on, the two had been inseparable.

Skip to ten years later and the two still are inseparable, well, if you count inseparable as Hoseok third-wheeling Seokjin and Jiwoo's dates ninety-percent of the time. He wasn't exactly mad or upset that Seokjin and Jiwoo were dating, quite the opposite actually, he was more than happy for them. But, that still didn't change the fact that in his mind, he liked him first.

Why wouldn't have Hoseok liked him?

Seokjin was everything Hosoek had ever dreamed about. Stealing Jiwoo's romance novels when he was younger really had put a lot of ideals into Hoseok's head. Specifically, the childhood friend trope. It was practically set in stone that Jung Hoseok would fall in love with Kim Seokjin because Kim Seokjin was his childhood friend. Seokjin was the attractive, dreamy, smart, strong, kind person Hoseok had fantasized about since he could remember. It was really a bonus for him that Seokjin happened to be his childhood friend.

However, this just made Hoseok automatically assume that they would end up together because "hey if it always works it in romance novels it should work out for me too!"

Wrong.

Hoseok's idealized version of his and Seokjin's love story crumbled when one cool summer night the older had confessed to liking Jiwoo.

Crack

Hoseok practically felt his heart shatter when he heard that. Of course he would like Jiwoo, who wouldn't?

From then on, Hoseok did his best to play wingman and help set up his crush with his sister. It obviously worked since one day Jiwoo came back from school all giggly and turned all blushy with just the mention of Seokjin's name. Hoseok put two and two together and pushed his feelings down since then. He knew he didn't really have to right to feel all that bad when he was the one who pushed them together. However, that didn't really stop him from wallowing in self-pity for the next few days.

Skip to present time and now Hoseok is doing what he does best. Writing a love letter.

He wasn't planning on giving this letter to Seokjin at all, it was more of something he did when he wanted to get over a crush that just seemed to absolutely engulf him and turn him into some lovesick puppy. Hoseok secretly liked the feeling of liking someone so much you don't what life would be without them. But he'd never say that out loud or admit that to anyone, especially himself.
