2nd Person Pov

Eight months. He's been gone for eight months. For eight months you've had to endure Billy's mocking. For eight months, you had to spend time with the girls whom you have nothing in common with. For eight months, your idiot of a best friend has been gone.

You get it. He had to see the world a bit before settling down. And if that's what Gilbert Blythe needs, then you had to accept it.

Your Pov

Waking up was just as hard as usual. At least when I am asleep, I can pretend Gilbert was still here. We had written to each other multiple times, but yesterday another letter arrived. He would not be coming back. He still wanted me to write, but that meant nothing to me. If he wasn't going to be here, then why shouldn't I distance myself from him? He left me. He led me on saying he would come home. Maybe I could convince him to come home. I thought as I pulled on a pair of trousers and a button down. After school, I could write to him again. It couldn't hurt. But for now, I needed to go to school.

"Y/n! Breakfast!" I heard my mother call up the stairs. I quickly tied my hair up and ran down the stairs.

"Thank you mother; it looks delicious!" I replied as I sat down. I began to scarf down my toast and milk because I didn't want Mr. Philips to get mad.

"Bye mother. I'm going to Anne's after school to study, but I will be back for supper." I yelled while pulling on my coat and hat. She murmured an okay and I grabbed my basket as I headed out the door.

I could see my breath in the cold air. I began to walk the road to school, the snow crunching under my boots. My thoughts drifted back to Gilbert, but I knew the path by muscle memory. The schoolhouse came into view and I began to focus again. Nobody was outside like they would be in the spring or fall. I stuck my milk bottle in the brook and walked inside.

As I hung my coat I noticed that people were crowded around something in excitement. As I walked in, they parted. I was taken aback when I saw Gilbert. I quickly set my books down and engulfed him in a hug.

"God, I've missed you." I whispered in his ear. His arms snaked around my waist.

"You have no idea, n/n." he replied. We finally let go and I couldn't stop smiling. I heard others snickering, but I didn't care at that moment there was only us two.

"I'll talk to you at lunch, alright?" he said when Mr. Philips entered. I nodded and everyone headed to their seats.
