Y/N POV

Betty, I won't make assumptions about why you switched your homeroom but, I think it's 'cause of me

I couldn't bear to walk into the same classroom as him. He was there, flirting with Winnie again, I just couldn't watch. "We're just friends" I remind myself, though this blow felt like a bullet to the heart. Yep, I was crushing on my best friend. I couldn't possibly tell him now, though. He liked her.

You heard the rumors from Inez, you can't believe a word she says most times, but this time it was true

Josie had told me at the beginning of last week about it. I didn't think it was true; that she was just lying to hurt my feelings. I did the logical thing and went into my homeroom anyway, and there she was. Holding hands with Gilbert. My Gilbert (for those that get this reference I love you <3). So I did change my homeroom, not that I told him that. Anyway, I had to think of the party I would be hosting tonight while my parents were away.

Gilbert's POV:

Y/n didn't show up to our homerooms, so I asked Mr. Philips what had happened to her.

"She changed homerooms. Now go sit so I can take roll call." I was taken aback by the sudden news, but I followed instructions anyway.

Betty, I know where it all went wrong. Your favorite song was playing from the far side of the gym. I was nowhere to be found. I hate the crowds, you know that. Plus, I saw you dance with him.

I recalled the Homecoming Dance that had happened at the end of October. Out of the Woods by Taylor Swift had been playing as we walked to the bleachers inside the gym. I saw her eyes lit up. I knew that she loved this song. She played it all the time, and just as I was about to ask her to dance with me Charlie came over. What. A. Dick.

"Wanna dance, Y/n?" he asked. I glared at him. Of course she wouldn't do it, would she? She glanced over at me.

"Is it alright, Gil?" she asked.

"Why wouldn't it be? I'm not in charge of you." I saw a look of pain flash on her face, but it was quickly replaced by a smile that I could tell she was faking. Then, she took his arm and started dancing along to the beat. I quickly left after, not being able to bear it.

I was walking home on broken cobblestones, just thinking of you when she pulled up like a figment of my worst intentions. She said "James, get in, let's drive." Those days turned into nights, slept next to her, but I dreamt of you all summer long.

I was walking home from the dance when Winnie pulled up in her car next to me, slowing it down to my walking speed.

"Is that Gilbert Blythe going home alone?" she asked in a cheery mood.

"Yes. A shocker, I know."

"Gil, get in." She smiled at me. The nickname felt wrong coming out of her mouth, foreign and I didn't like it. That was what Y/n called me. My Y/n. But what else could I do? I got into her car and she drove me home.

~The Night of The Party~

Y/N POV

Everything was ready and the bass was blasting. Some people were drinking and others were kissing. Luckily, I had locked away all our valuables in my room. I heard the door bell wring and I pushed through the crowd to get it. There he was. Standing on my doorstep, looking like shit in the most beautiful way.

Yeah, I showed up at your party. Will you have me? Will you love me? Will you kiss me on the porch in front of all your stupid friends? If you kiss me, will it be just like I dreamed it? Will it patch your broken wings? I'm only 17, I don't know anything, but I know I miss you

"Hey, Y/n. I just... I know that you don't want me here, but I'm here."
"Is Whinny going to be here too or is it just you?" I sassed. I could hear Anne and Diana calling my name, but as I turned to walk back inside Gilbert grabbed my wrist.

"Please, N/n. I hate that I can't talk to you and that I don't get to see your dazzling smile. I like you... a lot. Like more than a friend, but I know I've been a total jerk and I-" I quickly cut him off with a kiss. His lips felt a little chapped, but still plump and sweet. I bet he could taste the strawberry soda I had just downed, but I felt perfect. Suddenly I heard laughter coming from beside us. We pulled apart and I looked, seeing Diana and Anne standing there giggling. Heat rose in my cheeks and I looked at the porch floor.

"So, does this mean you guys are a couple?" Diana asked.
"Yes...yes it does." Gil said as he clasped our hands. And that kiss, was way better than I could ever have imagined.

Hey y'all! I just wanted to thank you all again for 1.1k. Truly, you don't understand how much this means to me. Feel free to request, and I will hopefully turn out another update soon. I love you all!
