I never saw myself as the type of woman who would want to settle down before her thirties. Travelling is what I lived for. Ever since my first trip to America to visit Disney World when I was five, I've never stopped dreaming of travelling the world.
I guess I should probably introduce myself. My name is Julie Brown. I'm a Kiwi, which means I'm from New Zealand—Auckland specifically. I'm definitely what you can call an extrovert. I love to go clubbing with my girlfriends and I don't have a shy bone in my body. When I was little my mother always used to tell me that I should go into acting since confidence is such a big trait. She was a model and even dipped her toes into acting in her teen years and early twenties before she met my father and decided to support his business while being a stay-at-home mother. I think that's why I love exploring the world and having fun so much. You never truly know when your freedom is going to come to an end.
That's really all there is to know about me. The only other thing I haven't mentioned yet is that I was eighteen years old, almost nineteen, when my story truly started.
After graduating high school I wanted to take a two-year break to see the world. My parents didn't necessarily approve of this plan, but my father allowed it and said he'd even fund it on the condition that I'd come back and go to University. I'm very privileged with my father being the CEO of the company his grandfather founded many years ago so my parents have always footed the bill. To keep my in check, six months into my travels my father signed myself and my twin brother up for a Mythology course in Greece so we'd at least have one course out of the way to put toward our University credits.
Yes, you heard right. I have a twin brother named Marcus. Some say we look very similar and others say we don't look related at all. We're a bi-racial family and while I pulled more from our mother's side with a slightly darker complexion and curly hair, Marcus looks like any other white boy if you aren't looking closely. Anyway, enough about my brother.
I thought this mythology course would be an annoyance, but it ended up being one of the best things I've done. I met my best friend, Danika, there while falling in love with the country, but I also learned much more than the course offered. Specifically, I learned things that the things we'd studied weren't necessarily myths after all. I met people who weren't supposed to exist. Suddenly my carefree life had become a whole lot more complicated.
