When Julie wasn't studying, she tried to keep herself as busy as possible with wedding preparations to keep her mind away from Hermes. Ever since their last dinner together, she couldn't stop thinking about their arrangement and wondering if it'd ever change. All this love stuff is getting to me, she rolled her eyes as she scrolled past cute gift ideas for the bride and groom to give each other on the day of the wedding.
With only two days left until the wedding, Julie didn't have much left to do. Everything was in order. All the decorations were waiting safely and patiently at the venue. The wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses and shoes were in their cloth bags, hanging neatly in a designated closet. The flowers had just arrived earlier that day to Danika's parent's home and were sitting in the fridge safely, bloomed just the right amount where they'd be perfect for the wedding day. All that was left to do was to wake up on time for the big day and get ready with the other girls.
With all the business in the weeks leading up to the wedding, no one had been making food so Julie was primarily living on takeout for lunches. Most nights she'd go to dinner with Danika and Apollo, feeling strange when she was a third wheel, but not much better when Hermes was there since everyone kept referring to it as a 'double date.'
Julie threw herself backwards onto the bed and let out a long sigh. "What the heck is wrong with me?" she wondered. She'd just gotten back from eating an early lunch at a café near Danika and Apollo's condo, where she'd turned down giving her number to a very handsome man. She turned men down often, normally because they were creepy or didn't meet her expectations in the looks department, but she'd never turned down someone as attractive and lovely. To make matters worse, she'd lied and said she was in a serious relationship. "I'm such an idiot."
"Why are you an idiot?" Hermes' voice spoke.
Julie gasped and turned her body so fast to look at the source of the noise that she almost fell off the bed. Once her brain connected the dots, Julie glared at Hermes, breathing heavily as she tried to control her racing heart. "How many times have I told you over the years not to scare the shit out of me?"
Hermes plopped onto the unmade bed, stretching before he relaxed into the pillows. "You didn't answer my question. Why are you an idiot?"
Julie groaned. "Nothing, it was stupid."
Hermes rolled onto his side and poked her. "Tell me," he whined.
Julie looked at him. "It was just some guy at lunch today. I wasn't thinking straight and turned down a date with him because I'll be back in New Zealand soon."
Hermes frowned at her. "How does that make you an idiot? You will be back in Kiwi land in a few days."
"Don't make fun of my country," Julie complained, hitting Hermes with a pillow. "I'm an idiot because now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure he was insinuating that he wanted to do a 'Netflix and chill,' kind of date if you know what I'm talking about."
