Chapter 14:  Past and Present

Today I thought I would just write about an interesting case we worked on. So we were called down to Florida to work on a case. All we knew about it was 5 women had previously been kidnapped and killed in the exact same way. Each taken on a different day of the week between Monday and Friday and killed on Saturday and dumped on Sunday. It was a strange, and I had never seen a killer like it. Anyway, we were all going down to Florida. But Alison had meetings all day and couldn't get out of them so she said she would follow us down the next day. I didn't mind but I don't particularly like being away from her, especially at night.

So anyway, we got to Florida, introduced ourselves as we usually do. Hotch then said another member of our team would arrive the next day. The Cape Coral PD were very co-operative and gave us everything we needed. So anyway we couldn't figure out why this killer takes his victims. He chose different race's, hair colour, eye colour, and social status. It was very confusing. The only thing we could pin point was the type of weapon he uses. He strangles and then stabs his victims. He also sexually abuses them and does so over the week he keeps them.

We had exhausted all of our leads for the day, so we went back to the hotel to get some rest. It took me a very long time to get to sleep because Alison wasn't beside me. But eventually I got there. The next morning, we all got up at about 7 and went for breakfast. We all sat at at the same table and we all joked and laughed but we had a little plan that because we were the only people there, we had a code word when the waitress was coming over to us. We would say, orange juice, and we would all become really quiet and act all official. She knew we were some sort of law so she kept looking at us.

Anyway, so we went to the station and started today's work. It was about 10 when Hotch got a call. He was smiling and laughing. He finished the call saying "Yes, OK see you in a few minutes" He looked at me and said, "Don't keep her waiting any longer" I smiled and caught the keys that Morgan threw to me. I walked out the door with a big smile on my face. I heard a detective, we were working with, say as he walked past me, "Someone looks happy" to which Morgan replied "Yea you will see why when he gets back."

I didn't hear anything after that. I climbed into the car and drove as fast as I could, remaining in the speed limit of course. I went over the limit once by mistake and was pulled over. The officer just swandered up to the driver side and looked at me and laughed. He said to me "Going somewhere?" I wanted to get out of here quickly to get to Alison so I said I was FBI. He just laughed and said " Yea right." I looked at him and said let me get my wallet out. So I took out my wallet and he just said "Sorry Doctor. I really do apologise"

I drove off quickly and got to the airstrip just as the plane landed. I got out and stood by the door of the car and waited for her to get off the plane. As she got off she saw me and a big smile spread across her face. She ran over to me and I gave her a massive hug and kissed me passionately. I loved it when she was like that with me. So I took her bag and we got into the car and drove to the Cape Coral Station. She insisted that we hold hands while driving. I told her that Hotch said he didn't want us to act as a couple while we were working incase an UnSub used it against us. So when we arrived back, we sat in the car for a minute and just kissed before going in.

When we got in, Alison went over to Hotch and said something to him. I didn't hear what it was but he just smiled and gave her a hug. She started to walk towards me, but then stopped and looked at the door. I looked at the door and only saw the detective who contacted us about the case. I thought there was someone behind him, but then I realised she was staring at him. I walked over to her and asked her what was wrong. She just said "I know the detective" I asked back "How?" She looked at me and said "He is my Ex-Fiancee"

I was shocked. She had never told me she was engaged before. I suppose there are alot of things I don't know about her. I had to ask one question."How bad was the break-up?" As soon as I said that she had a look of anger in her eyes and she just said "He cheated on me with my then best friend". This was going to be one akward case. I asked her if she needed to talk about it or if she wanted to be left alone. She asked to speak to me and asked me to speak to Hotch about it. I said I would.

I explained to Hotch and he called Alison over. She started to cry alot and turned to me for comfort. Detective O Reilly came over to us and said "Alison, I want to talk to you" She looked up, her face tearstained, her mascara running down her cheeks. And she turned back into my chest and cried again. I said "Is it really necessary for you to be here. As you can see, you are upsetting her" He just said "Who are you, her babysitter?" Hotch saw my expression and said "Reid don't!" Alison appeared then and said "No, I do need to speak to him." She looked at me and nodded. I let her go and said "OK but if you need me, just call me" And Hotch added, "Me aswell"

They went into the interview room to talk and I heard some raised voices and then Alison shouted. She screamed and said "YOU THOUGHT WE WERE ON A BREAK?" then she broke down in tears again. Detective O Reilly went to comfort her and she looked up and said "Don't touch me. I will call in the others, I swear to god, come near me and I will scream". She went to the door and called me over. She wanted me to come into the room for some reason. I went in and O Reilly was stood in the corner opposite the door. She started talking to me in whispers saying "I'm gonna tell him now. Will you help me if it goes wrong?" I nodded and said "Of course. Know that I'm always here for you whenever you need me.OK?" She nodded and turned to O Reilly.

She started the conversation by saying, "Neil, I have to tell you something." He interrupted ehr by saying "Let me go first. I love you and have never stopped. I know what I did was wrong but would consider taking me back? I promise to be a better boyfriend that you will ever have or have ever had. So whatcha say?". Alison looked really uncomfortable after that. She said "I can't. I don't love you anymore. The day you cheated you had lost me forever, and besides, im with someone." He just smiled and said "Yeah right, come on we can go for dinner tonight. My treat?" She recanted with "I am with someone. Someone I love VERY much and he is 10 times the man you are. He treats me like a woman, not something disposable with no emotions!" He still had a smug look on his face and said "If he is so special to you, how come he didn't come with you today?". Now she had the smug smile on and said "Oh, didn't I say this? You have met him already. I work with him."

He looked out of the interview room window and said "Is it the tall black guy? or the team leader?" "No." He replied with "What the old guy? Haha good joke." She turned to look at me and I stepped up and said "You know for a police officer, you really aren't very observant, because if you were, you would have noticed how we are around each other, hugging all the time and look at her hands. Notice anything?"        He looked down and noticed the ring, sparkling on her finger. He looked hurt and said "Him? And engaged?" She nodded and took my hand. I spoke and said "I love her very much and she loves me too. So please stop trying to make my fiancee upset. Now if you don't mind, we have a job to do."  He nodded and said, "I apologise, Agents."

We walked out of that room hand in hand and I got some funny looks and some shocked looks as if they were saying "How did he get her?". I didn't care. She was mine and I was hers. We got to Hotch and he gave her a hug and said "Everything OK now?"  She nodded and said loudly so O Reilly, who was passing would hear, "Yes, we shouldn't have anymore trouble from him". I was happy, not because she was hurt, but because she admitted she loved me and she was telling people that I loved her and vice-versa.
