I stood outside of Dan's house with Zayn. We arrived a bit later to his party than we usually did because Zayn had to talk his mum into letting him stay out with the rest of the team, which meant I would be the one giving him the ride so I had to wait. I didn't want to because I was set on having a good night with a few drinks. I was just glad that I had my own car and didn't have to ask my dad if I wanted to stay out; not that I was in the mood to face the man.

"You almost finished with that?" I asked Zayn, getting a bit annoyed that I agreed to stand outside with my best friend instead of getting my night officialy started.

Zayn took the cigarette out of his mouth and exhaled a stream of smoke, which formed into a shape of a cloud as it broke apart in the air. "I haven't even had it for a minute yet. Are you alright?" He asked, tapping the cigarette lightly between the hold in his fingers before he brought it back to his lips.

"Why wouldn't I be? I had a crap match and then I turn around and see the water boy celebrating and acting like he's won." Truthfully, I wasn't mad with Niall. It was just something I could complain about to Zayn, who always listened to me no matter what I was on about. I never once asked Zayn if he actually hated our water boy or if he also just acted like he did.

"Yeah, I was there." He let out a short scoff and shook his head. Then he let out a bitter chuckle, which always sparked my interest. "I just got done telling that scum that if he wanted to feel like he was part of the team, I'd smash his face into the field, but then Liam had to step in like he always does." He exhaled another breath of smoke before I asked him to pass it over, the mention of Liam's name causing some sort of reaction in my stomach.

He passed it over and I took a quick drag from it, feeling a little bit more at ease once I had the control over how much I took in.

"Course he did." I managed out after my exhale, giving Zayn his cigarette back and then waving over to Blake as he carried in a case of beer to Dan's. I couldn't help but laugh at him and tell him to save me a few.

"So, can I ask what your plan is with Liam yet? If it's humiliation, you have the perfect opportunity to do it tonight." He offered me the cigarette again but I shook my head at him.

That would be a terrible idea since the team would probably all side with Liam. Plus, we're gathered to celebrate our victory and I wasn't going to be the one to ruin the night by trying to sabotage a good person's life. Again, I just found myself protecting Liam and I was protect him from myself of all people.

"My plan with Liam is not to do anything tonight. You know I already promised him that we'd lay off Water Boy. The night's not over, Malik." I scratched at the side of my face, still eager to get inside. At this point I decided that I was going to leave Zayn to finish his cigarette by himself.

"I'll catch up with you later. I'm gonna snatch a beer from, Blake, yeah?" I called over to him as I walked away from him, backwards so I could see if he responded to me silently or not. Once he nodded I waved him off and turned to face Dan's house.

From the front door I could walk straight into Dan's kitchen. I cleared my throat as I leaned against the entryway. "I believe the party can officially start now since I'm here!" I announced to the few boys that were in the kitchen. I immediately noticed Josh and Liam sitting next to each other at the table. They were having a chat of their own, not really noticing me. A bitter joke sat at the tip of my tongue about the two of them but I resisted to tell it this time.

"Tommo, just in time!" Dan said as he walked over to greet me, raising his arm for me to slap hands with him and then pull him into my shoulder for me of those brotherly types of hugs. We patted each other's backs before going back to our own space.
