Alice may not have slept that night due to the building pressure in her head, but she could tell for sure that the others did. Peter hadn't been joking about stealing blankets as she found herself half covered with 1 of Peter's arms across her shoulders and a leg hooked around her waist, while his head was buried into her shoulder.
She also found out that James snored at lot (she briefly wondered if it was genetic but lost that thought pretty quickly). So much so that she was pretty sure he shook the room once. Plus the fact that she could actually hear it which meant that he was louder than 50 shouting, angry voices right inside her head.
In the middle of the night, to try and cure her boredom, she had slipped out of bed and plodded over to Sirius where she tried to see how many things she could stack on him without waking him up. This was when she discovered that Remus was awake as he turned over and made eye contact with her, before motioning to a pile of books Sirius had left on the floor.
After that, Remus got out of the bed as elegantly as an elegant person, and had joined her. Together they created a pretty impressive stack, high fiving over the top of the 3 pillows, 7 books, 2 quills, a singular brick that was lying around, all his hair products, and the mattress and duvet from Remus' bed that they had managed to balance on top of him. They had considered using Frank's plants but Alice deemed them off limits for being too nice. Then they had tried to move James but he had started drooling and neither of them were that cruel.
That took them to around 2 in the morning where Remus then pulled out a wizarding chess set, placing a silencing spell over it. They sat opposite each other with their best games faces, crosslegged in the middle of the floor and only the moonlight to illuminate their game. Alice was secretly thankful for everything having to be silent as it meant she wasn't expected to be able to hold a conversation, especially when she practically couldn't hear through the shouts inside her head.
Now Alice hated chess with a passion, but there was something about wizarding chess that made her cackle like a madman whenever 1 of her pieces would destroy an opponent's, but brought her to tears when she lost 1 of her own pieces. She tended to cry a lot in wizarding chess, especially when her brain was playing up.
But Remus didn't seem to mind winning every game at all, enjoying it actually. Alice didn't care about losing to Remus if it cheered him up, although she did cry badly when Barrimus Artiluris LeHorsey was taken as he had survived every round, only to be taken protecting a king who died 2 moves later. What can I say, it was an emotional moment.
But even that could only last so long, so at 3AM, Remus and Alice slipped on their shoes, grabbed their wands, and Remus stole an invisibility cloak from James' trunk, before the 2 left the dorm.
Making their way through secret passageways, and then through the underground tunnel, they found themselves in Honeyduke's at only 3:47. They weren't entirely sure why they had come to Honeyduke's, but if life gives you an invisibility cloak, the inability to sleep, and a handy passage, well you have to steal sweets.
They messed around a bit, throwing sweets at each other with the hope they would catch it in their mouths like you always see the people in movies do. That being said, they weren't in a movie so it ended up pretty badly. But Remus, ever the scheming Professor, made them tidy up after themselves, leaving no trace they were even there, besides the few missing sweets. Alice made sure to grab lots of chocolate as Peter had told her it was Remus's favourite and with what was coming up, he would need it.
So that led to them stumbling back into their dorm at 6:12AM, giggling maniacally with their pockets stuffed with stolen sweets. The room was still asleep and the pile on top of Sirius was still, miraculously, as it had been left. Although majorly sleep deprived and every movement making the other laugh, they managed to sit back down on the floor, now playing a silenced version of exploding snap, which wasn't as fun as the loud version but still served the purpose for their sleepless brains.
