Lily was sitting on her four-poster in the girl's dormitory as she recounted the events that occurred yesterday. She had been drifting away from her best friend for quite a while and yesterday had done it. She was getting an unfortunate flashback of what had happened.

"Haha! Who wants to see me take off snivellus' pants?", James said while waving his wand and casting incantations to cause Severus to go upside down.

"Stop it, Potter! I'm warning you.", exclaimed Severus with some fear in his voice but trying to be as threatening as possible with his wand out of reach.

"Wash your mouth snivellus. Scourgify!" said James coldly.

Severus let out a stream of mixed swear words and hexes

"Leave him ALONE!" Lily exclaimed, trying to defend her best friend. "What's he done to you?"

James' free hand went straight to his hair as soon as he saw Lily.

"Well, it's more the fact that he exists, if you know what I mean..." he said, deliberating the point. The nerve!

"You think you'll make a good clown Potter? But you're just an arrogant, bullying toerag! Leave him alone!"

"I will if you go out with me Evans" he said quickly, "Go on, go out with me and I'll never lay a wand on old snivelly again."

The impediment jinx wore off and Severus was making his way towards his fallen wand, spitting out soapsuds as he crawled.

"I wouldn't go out with you if it was a choice between you and the giant squid." ,said Lily with every intention of making sure that James understood it and took it to heart.

Severus attacked James causing a huge gash to appear at James face but James was no slower to react. In the next few seconds Severus was dangling upside down with his robes falling beneath his legs. Lily was furious.

"let him down!", Lily had her own wand out now. "Don't make me hex you Evans.", James said earnestly. "Take the curse off him then!", Lily replied.

James sighed deeply and muttered the counter-curse to let Snape down.

"There you go, you're lucky Evans was here to save you." said James mockingly.

"I don't need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!"

Lily was flabbergasted-

"Fine, I won't bother in the future. And I'd wash your pants if I were you ,Snivellus."

"Apologise to Evans!" roared James.

"I don't want you to make him apologise, you're as bad as he is!" said Lily, rounding up on James.

"what! I'd never-", James was cut off by Lily...

"Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look like you've just gotten off your broomstick, showing off with that stupid snitch, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who comes in your way just because you can. I'm surprised your broomstick can get off the ground with your fat head on it. You make me SICK."

He called after her as she turned on her heel and hurried away.

The events of yesterday changed everything. Lily has no friends. None. She stepped out of the dormitory into the common room, surprised to find it deserted except-

"Evans, look I'm sorry about yesterday.", James said.

"The great James Potter is saying sorry? It must be Christmas! I thought I made my position very clear yesterday."

"Evans I mean it. Look, I'll make it up to you. I'll do your transfiguration homework for a week"

Lily was surprised that he actually meant it. Lily and James leave the Gryffindor common room together.
