A huge grin was plastered on james' face as he walked out of the common room, with Lily Evans beside him! He had made sure not to mention anything about his attraction to her when he had noticed how, for the first time, Evans was actually laughing at his jokes. Possibly because they weren't at snivelly's expense. But Sirius seemed to be 'siriusly' offended by the thought of Lily and James being friends. He remembered walking out of the common room and the look of disbelief and betrayal on Sirius' face almost made him topple over laughing.

"Are you kidding me James! I thought I was your best platonic buddy", he exclaimed pointing aggressively in Lily's direction.

"You are! She's just super upset from yesterday.", he said "And she's damn scary, I really don't want to be hit with numerous death glares for the rest of my life." He added in a whisper.

"Fine but I'm serious her-"

"Yes, you're always Sirius", he said chuckling.

Sirius couldn't help but laugh. He always loved 'Sirius' puns, so he let her go.

"Hurry up! We'll be late for transfiguration." Remus yelled purposefully.

"Is Evans rubbing off on you Moony?", Sirius jokes.

A death glare from both Lily and Remus seemed to be enough to shut up James and Sirius. Sirius threw a knowing glance towards James.

"We definitely don't need that girl as an enemy." He gulped.

"I think I'm scared already!" Peter exclaimed with a terrified look on his face.

The five reached transfiguration 7 minutes late, earning the 'teacher face' from professor Mcgonnagal. Lily looked down at her shoes, disappointed in herself, and walked to the back of the class while James and Sirius waved at the Professor, followed by a terrified Peter and Remus who had an apologetic look on his face. For the first time ever, James chose to sit with Lily. He would have done it eons before, that is if Lily would have let him, this time, to James' surprise, she let him.

"Why, thank you Evans.", James said.

"Could you keep it down?", she whispered "And maybe the next time we could be punctual!" Lily added, frustrated.

"You mean there will be a next time?",James asked stupidly before he could stop himself.

"Maybe," Lily said, "But only if you're punctual."

"Well, 'maybe' is good." he muttered to himself.

All through the class, James couldn't help but notice her beautiful green eyes, he decided to keep that to himself. In the past, it hadn't proved to be efficient. He desperately wanted Lily to be a friend. He did have Padfoot and Moony, Wormtail was a little stupid, but Lily seemed fun. His thoughts were interrupted by Professor Mcgonnagall.

"Mr. Potter, hopefully you'll find answering this question more interesting than looking at Mr. Lupin's back."

James was confused and muttered something extremely clever like "I... um- I wasn't... I'm pretty sure."

"I hope that's enough muttering. Now, Mr. Potter, what incantation is used for turning something into stone." she asked

James was great at Transfiguration. He couldn't believe that Mcgonnagall would ask him such an easy question. The four of them, the Marauders, had managed to turn into 'freaking' animagi, as James kept reminding the other two. Nobody was supposed to know about their secret ability. Cause then they wouldn't be able to help Remus with his transformations. So, he answered the question nonetheless.

"Duro."

"That is indeed correct", she smiled at James "Miss Evans, looks like we've found you just the perfect study partner."
