The next morning, the children sat down to breakfast at the long table with you and Dark. Elizabeth and Theodore prepared their Froot Loops began eating so they could quickly get ready for school. Zane just stared at his bowl. His eyes were wide and rimmed with black. His skin pale as snow. His eyes filled up with tears and he put his head into his arms on the table. You stood up and walked over to him. You held a calming hand on his back. "Sweetie... Are you alright?" Zane looked up at you and then turned to Dark. "Dad said I might see things in my head... In my dreams... It scares me..." His eyes were swimming with tears. You hugged him. "It's all okay, honey... We're going to find out how to keep those thoughts away..." Zane grinned weakly. "Y-You really think s-so?" You smile. "I'm sure of it." You glance at Dark and he smiles. You walk back to your seat. You could have sworn you saw a hint of doubt hiding in his eyes.
The children packed their bags for school. Elizabeth ran up to you. "I'm going to do what you said! I hope Nicolas will understand!" You kiss her forehead. "Oh, I'm sure of it, sweetheart." She beamed and ran out to the car. Theodore was packing up a new science book in his backpack. "Mom, look! Google gave me another book to read! He's so thoughtful! I want to know everything like him one day." You giggle. "Someday, little champ." He laughs and follows Elizabeth into the car. Zane was walking slowly by Dark's side. "I'll be going to school with Zane. I still want to check on him to see how he'll act at school." You nod. "Alright. Have a good day, honey!" Dark kisses you and follows the kids into the car. They all buckle in and Dark drives off. You lean against the door frame, watching them exit the big gate. "Hope it goes well..."
-time skip-
The kids arrived home with Dark. Elizabeth ran into your arms. "Nicolas was a little upset, but he said he's willing to wait! Yay!" You smile. "That's great, honey! Do you have any homework?" She nods. You smile. "You get started and I'll come help in a little bit, okay?" "Okay!" Theodore runs to catch up with her. "Hey! I can do the homework with you, you know!" You laugh and turn to Zane, holding Dark's hand. "How was your day, Zane?" He didn't answer. He stared at the floor as tears began to pour out of his eyes. As he wiped his eyes with a handkerchief, Dark took your hand. "He had an okay day. Didn't you, buddy?" Zane slowly nodded. Dark turned back to you. "He started to whimper a little during class, but I assured him and he was calming down easily." You exhale. "Well, that's good. Any other news?" Dark shook his head. "Nothing else that I know of. Now, Zane, let's go help you with that homework of yours." They went up the stairs into his room to do his homework. Dark wants to get to the bottom of this, so, understandably, he wants no distractions.
You walk into the dining room to help Elizabeth and Theodore with their homework. Elizabeth nudges your hand with her pencil. "Mom, is Zane going to be alright?" You smile. "Yes, Lizzie. Dad's still trying to figure him out, but as far as we know, Zane is going to be fine." Elizabeth softly smiles. "That's good. I'm really worried..." You hold your hand on her shoulder. "It's alright to worry, sweetheart, however, Zane is alright. Okay, dear?" She smiles. "Okay." She turns back to her homework and you start to wonder. Is Zane alright? What could he possibly be thinking?
