This is NOT angst don't be fooled
Gerard's hands shook as he stared down at the letter. Thick tears rolled down his cheeks, splattering on the paper. He barely managed to take a ragged breath before sobs wracked his body.
Frank was dead.
Missing in action, they called it. But Gerard had been a military boyfriend long enough to know that missing in action was a way of cushioning the blow.
He was never going to come home. The bed was going to remain cold, Frank's side never warmed by his gentle smiling face again.
Gerard clutched his chest, trying to wipe away the tears that just kept coming.
Gerard stumbled over to the door when there was a knock on it. He knew Mikey had said he was coming over later, and he needed emotional support.
It wasn't Mikey when he opened the door.
Frank stood there, looking confused. "Gee? Why are you crying?"
Gerard blinked, staring at his missing in action boyfriend. "Frank..."
"What's the matter, honey?" Frank frowned and cupped Gerard's cheek, wiping away the tears.
Gerard jumped and wrapped his arms around Frank's neck, sobbing into his overgrown hair. He felt Frank's arms slide around his waist and push him inside so that he could close the door.
"Shh," Frank cooed. "Tell me what's wrong?"
Gerard took a deep, shuddering breath. "I got a letter that you were MIA, and that means dead, most of the time."
"Honey, no." Frank kissed him softly. "I resigned."
"You left?"
"I did. I wanted to start this part of our lives together free." Frank knelt down on one knee. Gerard's heart stuttered. "I don't have a ring, but fuck, Gee, I love you so much. Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
"Yes," Gerard whispered. He knelt down and kissed Frank hard. "Yes!"
Frank smiled against his lips. "I love you. I can't wait to get married to you."
Gerard couldn't either.
