Hayley got it all done pretty quickly. Having to disappear was something she was more than familiar with. The caskets were ready, and so were their documents and their first house. The first of many, Hayley assumed, since it would hardly take much time until people noticed Elijah's and Rebekah's bloodlines were still alive and kicking. Still, they would vanish into the night, and Hayley would make damn sure no one ever laid a finger on her baby or her family.

Hayley's hands trembled as she got out of the truck. The parking lot smelled like vanilla ice cream, making Hayley twist her nose. She used to love eating ice cream by the beach, but now the smell made her sick.

"Maybe I can take Hope to the beach some day," the thought crossed her mind as she tried to pull herself away from the sick sensation of the smell, "We can all go and Hope can play with the sand and..." a sob cut her breath. The suddenness of it made Hayley lose her balance. Pressing one hand over her mouth and using the other to lean against the front of the truck, she tried to catch her breath.

Everything was ready, and she even had time to spare. So why did Hayley feel like she couldn't breathe?

Her wobbly legs took her to the passenger side of the truck, and as she pulled the door open Hope's quiet gaze meet hers. Hayley had never seen her little girl this calm. Her little eyes watched everything so carefully, and so... hopefully...

A small smile shaped Hayley's lips. Taking her daughter's little hand into her own, she promised not to cry.

"This isn't the end of the Mikaelsons." Hayley muttered, cleaning some rebel tears from her face. "It's not the end of our family." She gave her daughter a last smile before moving to grab her phone.

Hayley should have heard the footsteps. She was a hybrid, for fuck's sake. How did she not hear them? She could not help but wonder. The parking lot had been deadly quiet when she arrived. Maybe it was because she was too absorbed in her own mind, her pain.

Either way, knowing why she could not hear them was useless. What good would question like do in a fight against more than a hundred rage filled vampires?

As the swarm of fists and fangs descended upon her from all directions, Hayley fought. What else could she do?

They punched the air out of her lungs over and over, biting her, tearing a piece of her at every chance. Yet for every bit they took, she ripped their heads in return. Hayley could do it all day.

But so were the vampires. They all came armed to the teeth, with more weapons than Hayley had ever seen in one place. Every time Hayley killed one, and partially freed herself from their grip, another three jumped into place to hold her down.

She could have done it, of course. God, if only little Hope wasn't siting six feet away from the bloodshed... Hayley could have won...

Hope's desperate cries pierced through her ears like hot iron.

Hayley fought harder, punching, screaming, kicking, biting and pushing. She would do anything to get to her daughter.

Yet when she was finally free from the vampires' claws, her body failed her. Of course, Hayley thought as her knees gave in from underneath her, of course the motherfuckers brought cursed knifes...

Hope's cries grew louder and louder while her mother's body fell to the floor.

"Hope..." Hayley muttered, blood dripping from her mouth as she tried to crawl to her daughter. The floor dissolved under her hands and shadows danced around her eyes, blurring her vision.

Yet, Hayley never took her eyes away from her daughter.

She did not listen to the terrified screams around her when he arrived.

All she could hear was Hope's cries... until they stopped.

If Hayley could raise her head and look around, she would have seen the piles and piles of dead vampires he left behind.

All Hayley saw was the tender way he picked up her daughter. All she could hear was Hope's sweet laugh when he sang to her in a foreign tongue.

"Keep her safe..." Hayley begged the strangely familiar man in front of her.

It was madness to leave Hope with him. Yet Hayley was as sure about it as she was sure Hope was her daughter. Hayley had no reason to trust him, except, perhaps, for the fact Hope apparently adored him. Somehow, it was enough for Hayley. She glanced at him one last time before darkness swallowed her.
