"Never trust anyone too much, remember the Devil was once an Angel,"
Harry and I stepped off the stone staircase at the top, and Professor McGonagall rapped on the door. It opened silently and we entered, Harry and I somewhat reluctantly. Professor McGonagall told Harry and me to wait and left us there, alone.
I looked around. One thing was certain: of all the teachers' offices I had the honor of visiting so far this year, Dumbledore's was by far the most interesting. It was a large and beautiful circular room, full of funny little noises. A number of curious silver instruments stood on spindle-legged tables, whirring and emitting little puffs of smoke. The walls were covered with portraits of old headmasters and headmistresses, all of whom were snoozing gently in their frames. There was also an enormous, claw-footed desk, and, sitting on a shelf behind it, a shabby, tattered wizard's hat — the Sorting Hat.
I nudged Harry and gestured to the sorting Hat. Harry looked hesitant. I glanced at the sleeping portraits before walking forward and picking up the Hat. I handed it to Harry first, he lifted it before sliding it onto his head. The hat was far too big and slipped down past his eyes.
"Bee in your bonnet, Harry Potter?" The hat said out loud, instead of in Harry's head.
"Er, yes," Harry muttered. "Er — sorry to bother you — I wanted to ask —"
"You've been wondering whether I put you in the right House," said the hat smartly. "Yes... you were somewhat difficult to place. But I stand by what I said before —"
Harry shifted Nervously.
"-you would have done well in Slytherin —" Harry frowned and grabbed the point of the hat and pulled it off. It hung limply in his hand, grubby and faded. He handed me the Hat and I pulled it on, like with Harry the hat slipped past. Instead of talking out loud, a whisper entered my mind.
"Nice to see you've figured things out Jenkins," The hat said.
"Yeah, despite being in the know, I still seem to have those issues," I thought humorously.
"They're getting better though, but I doubt they will ever truly leave you. You yourself have been wondering about the house I've put you in?" The hat asked.
"Sometimes I wonder, other times it's clear to me why I'm in Gryffindor and not the Others," I replied.
"Yes some of your qualities didn't fit with Ravenclaw or Slytherin, despite you being the Hier and Lady to both Houses, it's ironic. But other times it's clear you are a mixture of all three, you crave to learn and you're creative like a Ravenclaw, but with those qualities comes arrogance and your need for things to be perfect makes you Judgemental. Your Brave and stand up for the right thing, regardless of the consequences, like a Gryffindor, but with that comes bluntness and impulsive actions. And then there's Slytherin. You said yourself that you believe"without ambition, life would be meaningless," Your cunning and resourceful but with those Slytherin qualities comes Paranoia, manipulation, and an obvious discard for other people's feelings, well people outside of your circle that is. Yes, you will most likely be the most difficult person I will have the pleasure of sorting" The Hat said thoughtfully. I smile slightly.
