Chapter Five: More Surprises

After all of the commotion settles, Jess and I find ourselves being escorted on stage. While walking up the steps, I end up stumbling and almost face planting. Luckily, one of the radio guys grabs my arm and prevents me from complete mortification. I instantly think back to graduation. When I was walking across the stage, my Vans had become untied and I tripped over them. That’s right. I kissed the stage in front of 400 of my closest peers and their families. Not my best moment.

“Whoa! Watch your step there!” Sam says with a smile. “That would be embarrassing if you showed up back stage to meet the guys and you had a broken neck!”

“Yeah for real, Audrey. Don’t be dumb.” Jess says through bits of laughter. I’m sure she was thinking of graduation too.

I shoot a scowl towards Jess and turn back to Sam and Jace. “Yeah, I know. But on the bright side, I’m sure I’d make a memorable first impression.”

“That you would. Anyways, I believe I heard your friend say your name was Audrey?” Jace says looking at me.

“Yep. That would be me.” I tell him. He’s really cute close up. I’m digging the tattoo. “This is my friend Jessica. She’ll be the one I give the other pass to.”

“Hello, Jess.” Sammy said with a smile. “Are the both of you super excited or what?”

“Um, yeah! We’ve been trying to win these things for weeks!” Jessica said with a huge grin. I start to grin too. I can’t believe we finally won. I’m still in shock I think.

“Well as I’m sure you guys know, the concert is this upcoming Friday. This means you have three day to get your outfits and whatever else you need. But, I have one more small surprise that I didn’t reveal on stage.” Sam says with a sly grin. This lady seriously likes surprises.

“Okay,” I ask, “What would that be?”

“Well Friday morning we’ve arranged for the both of you to go on a one thousand dollar shopping spree! A limo will pick ya’ll up and take you to the shopping area down town around 9 o’clock.” Sammy finishes with a huge grin.

As soon as we hear this, Jess and I both let out screams of excitement. This night keeps getting better and better. I’m actually hoping this is the last surprise though. I don’t think I can take anymore.

“Are you serious? This is a joke. We get to meet the boys, go back to the hotel with them, and we get a limo and shopping spree? This can’t be real.” Jessica says.  She’s actual looking a little faint.

Sammy laughs and pats Jess on the arm, “Of course this is real! I wouldn’t joke about something this serious!” She says with a grin.

“Okay, well we’re going to have to wrap this up. We have to be back at the station to do our show in thirty minutes.” Jace says to Sam. He turns back to face us now, “Girls, after you’re done shopping, the limo will drop you off at the station where you will come up to Sam and mine’s room. You’ll come with us to the concert to meet all the boys.” He finishes with a small smile. I notice he has really white teeth. I’m in the middle of deciding if he whitens then or just brushes a lot, when I feel someone punch my arm. I turn to see Jess looking at me expectantly. I realize I must have been staring.

“Ouch, dude! What is it?” I say while I rub my arm, trying to play it cool.

“Sammy asked you if you could sign those papers verifying that you’re the winner.” Jess tells me. I can see the amusement etched onto her face. Busted, I think to myself.

“Oh, yeah. I can do that.” I say with a nervous laugh.

Sammy hands me the papers and I sign where she tells me to. After I’m done, Sam asks for pictures. Jess and I agree and Sammy tells us that we’ll be featured on the 104.9 Hitz website. Inwardly, I groan. Everybody is going to see this. Great, I say in my mind. I’m not the most photogenic person. Sighing, I say okay and pose with Jess while Sammy and Jace wrap their arms over our shoulders.

After the photos and everything has calmed down, Jess and I give our goodbyes to the radio personalities and head out of the club. I still don’t think that it has sunk in yet that we’re going to be meeting all the guys in the next 72 hours.

“Well I think the best way to end tonight is with some cheap Italian food. What do you think?” Jess asks as I open my car door.

“I think that would be a definite yes.” I laugh. And with that, we go in search of food.
