Chapter Eleven: Unexpected Past

After walking a few blocks, we come across a tiny 24 hour diner. I’ve been by it countless times but I never stopped for some reason. As we walk in, there are red and black booths and black top tables scattered everywhere. They have old license plates from every state hanging above the bar and an old jukebox against a wall. I like it.

An older woman comes up to us and takes us to our seats. We sit in a small booth in a corner and give her our orders. When she leaves, Harry turns to look at us. “Well, what you think?”

“I like it. I can’t believe I haven’t ever thought to come here.” I confess.

“Yeah, we walk by here almost every day.” Jess adds.

About ten minutes later, the woman comes back with our food, which is absolutely amazing. After the first bite, I knew I was a goner. Shoveling food into my mouth, I almost look like the female Niall. I’m about to tell Harry thanks for bringing us here but I’m interrupted by an oddly familiar voice.

“I didn’t know pets were aloud in here.” Someone called from a few tables away. Looking over, I see that it was a girl Jess and I knew back in high school. We all used to be best friends until the girl started sleeping around and talking behind mine and Jess’s back.

“I could say the same for you, troll.” Jess snaps back.

“Ouch, Jessie. That really hurt” She says while pretending to be wounded.

“I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t talk to us, Liz.” I tell her. By this time Harry and Niall look torn between asking us who the girl is and just keeping quite. I give them a small smile to reassure that everything is okay.

“Yeah, Liz. Leave the trash alone.” The girl sitting across from Liz says. I recognize her also. She was one of Jess’s old friends back in school. I think her name was Macy. They had a falling out senior year but I couldn’t remember why.

“No, I think Audrey might be scared of me. Are you, Skank? You know I can beat you.” Liz says with a smirk. Oh hell no! She’s asking for it now, I think. She always would tell me she could beat my ass in high school. Back then, I wasn’t a fighter so I let her talk. Now, things were different.

“Hey, Liz. How about you shut your mouth?” Jess calls. I know she’s getting worked up too.

“Girls, just ignore the filthy creatures. Clearly, they just want to cause a ruckus.” Harry tells us. He’s starting to look worried. I glance at Niall and see that he has a nervous look in his eyes. Feeling bad, I nod my head. The boys have been nothing but nice to us. I would hate to embarrass them.

Averting our attention back to our food, Niall asks us what we want to do after breakfast. I tell him that we girls could give them a tour of our city if they’d like. Nodding, they agree.

Harry and Jess rise up to go pay the bill. I turn around in my booth so that I’m facing Niall. I’m starting to realize that I am really falling for the blue eyed boy. Smiling at me, he takes my hand in his. He opens his mouth to say something but he is cut off by someone else.

“So you’re just gonna ignore me like you did in high school, huh? I see how it is. You and Jess were always bitches. I don’t know why we were ever friends.” Liz speaks to me.

“Are you kidding me right now? Who was the one that always took your sorry ass in when your alcoholic mom kicked you out?! That’s right, me! You cannot say that I was a bad friend. I was there for you every freakin’ time you called me crying your eyes out.” I tell her venomously. Taking a glance at Niall, I see his worried expression. I try to calm myself down. I have a horrible temper and Liz knows it. She’s just trying to set me off.
