when the black haired boy woke up, he was greeted by the strong smell of disinfectant. he looked down and saw his arm in a cast, and he was laying on the hospital bed. he was in the public ward where there were other patients in the room with him.

next to him, he saw a doctor and a few nurses talking amongst each other. he couldn't help but overhear their conversation, because they weren't that far from where he was.

"there really isn't anyone?"

"we checked the system. her parents are deceased and she seemed to not have any distinct relatives we can contact."

the doctor sighed as he looked at the patient on the bed. yunho couldn't see the patient because the nurses were blocking. but he could see that it was a petite figure. whoever they were, that person looked really sick.

"she's had the tumor for over a year now. it's grown very big and i'm not even sure surgery would be enough to remove it."

as yunho was listening to the conversation, he didn't realise that he had visitors. a tall boy and two adult figures approached his bed and sat around him. he diverted his attention to them, and he smiled at the sight. he was happy to see his best friend and his parents.

"yunho, are you okay?" his mother strokes his head gently, her voice filled with concern.

"i'm okay, don't worry. my injuries aren't that bad," he smiled assuringly. he didn't want them to worry so much.

yunho got into a minor accident when he was cycling the night before. he fell downhill and sprained his ankle and injured his arm. he also had some scratches here and there.

"how can we not worry? we hate seeing you in this condition," mrs jeong sighed. "i had to close the bakery for the day and rush here. how can a mother not worry for her son?"

"thank you for coming. but i'm okay. the doctor says i can be discharged in a few days. i just have to be on crutches for a bit."

"it's okay bud. i'll be with you, so you can depend on me," the tall boy smiled. yunho chuckled softly at the sight. "thanks mingi."

"of course. you always take care of me well. now it's my turn."

"sure thing," yunho nodded.

"sorry i can't be here for long. i have a movie to get back to. i just came to check up on you for a little bit," mr jeong announces. yunho understood how busy his father was, so he didn't mind it.

"you came, that's all that matters," yunho gave a faint smile.

"i'll come back whenever i can. take care of yourself, and let me know when you can go home and i'll pick you up."

yunho just nodded and bid farewell. after his dad left for work, his mom and best friend were there for quite a long time to keep him company. he was grateful that they were willing to stay by his side even though they had things to do and his injuries weren't that serious. he never wanted to take things for granted.

they wanted to stay the night but eventually ended up going home because they wanted yunho to rest, and also because yunho kept convincing them that he was going to be fine.

yunho wanted to grab his phone from the bedside table, and in doing so, he noticed the patient laying on the bed next to him. the bed where the doctor and nurses were crowding around earlier that day.

then he recognised her. the pale, petite figure on the bed, with her hands on her stomach. of course he recognised her. how could he forget the girl he was once deeply in love with?
