~~~~~
It was a dark and cold night. The moon shone through the trees that surrounded us as we sat beside the campfire. Joey and Susie sat beside one another, Joey's arm around her shoulder. We had recently robbed a small trading caravan, and Susie took the alcohol that they had. Now they were drinking it. I was offered some but declined.
"Fine, be boring then." Susie rolled her eyes.
They sat and drank as I stared into the fire, listening to their flirting and laughter. I always had the urge to run away from them, but tonight, it was stronger than usual. Maybe it was the fact that they had alcohol in their system that made my body feel that now was my chance. After going through it in my head, I decided that tonight was the night. I was done with this. But still, something kept bothering me. I knew what it was. I had thought about it for days. I knew I couldn't leave them alive. I knew that if I did, they'd just continue to kill and steal. People started to fear us more, and that made them both more cocky. Maybe that would eventually get them killed, but I couldnt leave it to chance. I knew what I had to do.
"Hey, (Y/n)!" Joey nudged my shoulder.
I raised my head.
"Hm?"
"You did good today." He smiled. "The way those people looked when they saw that mask of yours, I couldn't be more proud. Shame we cant use that good old 'stand and stare' thing you used to do."
I put on a fake laugh and smile.
"Yeah, thanks."
Susie stood up wobbly. Joey didn't want to drink too much, but Susie went all out. He stood up, holding her straight.
"Whoa, whoa, easy." He told her.
"I can stand, I can stand."
Her stomach made a weird noise. She hunched over, holding her belly.
"Excuse me g-gentlemen, but I think I'm gonna be sick."
She then darted off into the trees.
Joey laughed.
"Girl never could hold her liquor."
I was shaking. This was my chance.
"I need to piss." I stood up. "I wont take too long."
He gave a gesture of acknowledgement and took a swig of his drink, looking into the campfire, laughing to himself.
I went in the opposite direction of Susie, then stopped when I thought I was far enough.
I slipped on the mask, and took the long way around the camp, as to not be seen by Joey. In the distance I heard the sound of vomit hitting the leaves on the ground. Then I saw Susie, hunched over, hand leaning on a tree.
"Fuck, got a bit in my hair." She groaned.
A twig snapped and she quickly turned around, knife in hand. Nothing was there. Her eyes darted around and she listened for movement. She then shrugged and turned back around.
She jumped at the sight of the mask, dropping her knife. When she realised who it was, she let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh, its only you, (Y/n). What'chu doing out here? Why do have your mask on?"
She then looked down at my hand, which was gripping my knife. I didn't say anything.
"Uh, (Y/n)?"
I walked towards her.
She backed up, and when I raised my knife, she dived for hers. She grabs it and goes to stand back up, but gets kicked in the chin, knocking her down. I knelt over her, and she goes to stab the side of my neck. I grabbed her wrist. It was a struggle, as we were equal strength. I punched her nose with my other hand and slammed her wrist onto the ground until the knife fell out of her grip. She opened her mouth to shout.
