If you asked me what I was going to do with my future I would've never guessed I'd become a scout. Considering how I was traumatized by Titans when Wall Maria fell. The images of pieces of debris and rubble flying everywhere taking many innocent lives.I could remember myself waking up that morning happily running to the kitchen seeing my father, mother & brother. It was almost like a nightmare when I woke up the next day alone in a barn with a bunch of strangers taking refuge behind Wall Rose.
I couldn't remember anything the day before after that morning, but I was almost relieved that I couldn't. I was alone for a while after the incident considering I was so young and couldn't speak or even really take care of myself. That was until I meet a boy my age, who generously handed me a piece of bread.
"Um, I saw you alone over here and thought you might want some food." This being the first time I spoke to anyone in a while I couldn't even talk. I grabbed the bread and smiled. He smiled back taking a seat next to me and ate his. "I'm... y/n."
"I'm Armin."
Armin Arlert.
Just hearing his name could bring a smile to my face. He was my savior, the one to keep me sane through it all.
The pace of my horse began to slow, bringing me out of my daydream. I gotta stop doing that. I looked forward, seeing the doors connected to Wall Rose slowly open. The view of the street full of civilians yelling profanities or praising us which was pretty normal. This was our first expedition since I joined the Scouts.
On my left was a cart that had Mikasa and Eren in it. Eren was still out cold, though I could understand why. The female titan didn't give him much of a chance. Mikasa had his head in her lap, slowly dragging her hands through his hair. "Hey, Mikasa do you think Armin is alright?"
She brought her cold gaze up to me, "Armin is strong and smart. I'm sure he's fine y/n."
I sighed looking down at my horse. I was sad remembering that this wasn't mine, but one of my dead comrades. I didn't have a choice since an abnormal stepped on mine almost killing me along with it. I was still hurt pretty bad seeing the cloth wrapped around my right wrist slowly seeping a crimson red.
I brought my hand up to my head, tugging down the bandage. I had a large gash on my head where I slammed so hard on the ground. I remembered the look the titan's face me when she crouched above me, almost as if she was disappointed. I hadn't thought about it much though as Armin was on my mind most of the time.
"Where are we," I turned to the cart seeing Eren groaning rubbing his eyes. "We're almost at camp, lay down and rest."
"That's what I've been doing this entire time. I've rested enough." He scoffed pushing himself up flinching at the bright sunlight. "Where's Armin," he looked around trying to see if he could spot Armin on one of the horses near us. I was myself for a while but no luck.
"I don't know. I've been looking for him ever since we came here."
The last time I recalled seeing him was when my squad was ushered into the woods. He was standing on top of a tree branch looking at me giving me a comforting smile. After that everything went straight downhill. I sure hope he's okay.
After another hour or so we had made it back to camp. I was forced to go on the infirmary by Levi as in his words, "Get that hand cleaned up brat. It's disgusting to look at." I tried to say otherwise, but there's no winning against Levi.
"Y/n!" I heard a familiar voice yelling from behind me. I turned around seeing the familiar-looking blond walking to me.
"Armin!"
I rushed to him pulling him into a hug. He didn't hesitate to wrap his arms fighting around me. "I'm so glad you're okay," He almost sounded like he wanted to cry. I had no room to speak, as I was too.
"I'm so happy to see you, I was so scared I was gonna lose you." I took in his familiar scent letting out a sigh of satisfaction. He smelt like cinnamon and honey. It was so comforting so I tended to hug him often. He pulled casting his eyes down to my hand, he pulled it into his taking a closer look at it.
"An abnormal stomped on my horse, it slung me off and it hurt me pretty bad." He frowned lightly, so did I. I was more upset about losing my horse than anything, she had a beautiful dark brown mane with lighter brown spots scattered on her head.
We started walking to the infirmary we were both quiet but it wasn't awkward. It was nice and calming, his hand was still laced with mine swaying it back and forth.
"Will you sit with me at dinner tonight and update me on your hand and head," I shook my head.
We arrived outside the infirmary doors, saying goodbye to one another. "I'll see you tonight okay." He told me rubbing my palm with his thumb. "Okay." I beamed feeling my cheeks start to warm up. He gave me one last hug and smile before walking away leaving me a blushing mess.
