It was approximately 9 in the morning, the sun was scolding hot beaming down on us. We were in full uniforms sparring. I felt on the verge of fainting as I swayed back-forth trying to cool myself down, but nothing was working.

"Pay attention or you'll be running laps till sunset." A hand was whacked on the back of my head. Commander Shadis wasn't the type to mess around, I knew he meant it. "Yes sir." I sighed bringing my attention back to Connie who stood in front of me with the fake knife.

"Come at me," Connie smirked bringing his foot into the air, almost falling over. He couldn't fail to bring a smile to my face.

I rolled my eyes going into my fighting stance, at least he got to be my partner. He could keep me entertained. "I'll be brushing your teeth with the dirt baldie." If anything could get to Connie it would be teasing him about his hair. His smile dropped and so did his stance. "Hey, that was mean."

While he was thrown off, I took advantage of it charging at him taking out his legs pinning him to the ground.

"H-hey! You cheated." He whined trying to break out of my grasp. His entire face turning a bright red, almost like an apple. "I did not." I snickered to myself. Connie was so easy to embarrass it was adorable.

He broke his leg fee kneeling me in the stomach, flipping us over. I lost my breathe letting out a wheeze.

"Who's the cheater now!" I groaned knowing it was gonna be sore. He did it pretty hard.

"It's still you." He exclaimed pulling the fake knife to my throat. "Any last words you peasant."

"Oh spare me." I cried going along with his little act, i'd taken notice to the few people who stopped sparring to stop and watch us. I felt a jab in my stomach, looking down seeing him stab it over and over again. "You just killed your best friend."

"You gave me no choice." He poked my cheek.

"What the hell is going on!" Connie was jerked off me and brought face to face with Commander Shadis. Well shit. "It's my fault sir." I sat up knowing what was next. Today was about to be even worse than it already was.

"Oh really y/l/n. Start running, you stop at sunset. If I see you walking, you'll run the entire night." I cringed seeing the spit hit my face as he yelled at me.

I groaned internally and started running, I have at least 7 - 8 hours of running to do. You owe me big time Connie.

- Time Skip -

Time slowly went by like it was punishing me, I slowly sprinted as I counted down the seconds until the sun would drop. When I had finally seen the moon over the horizon, I stopped dropping to the ground.

I felt like I was on the verge of happy tears, it felt so nice giving my legs a break. The breeze had picked up and I shut my eyes. Maybe I should just stay the night out here and they can find me tomorrow.

"Oh god, don't be dead." I heard a voice mumble. I opened my eyes twisting my head over towards the dining hall. Connie was walking to me slowly as if he was gonna see something he didn't want to.

"Sadly i'm not, being dead would feel better than this." I mumbled raising myself to look at him. It was a full moon out and it lit up everything nicely.

"Hey don't say that. I brought you some water and bread. I would've brought more but Sasha wasn't allowing it." He sat in front of me handing them over to me cautiously. I grabbed the water gulping it down. "Connie you're an angel, ya know that." I cried grabbing the bread taking a huge bite of it. It was still pretty warm almost fresher maybe it was because i felt like i was dying so everything tasted better.

"It's the least i could do since you took the blame for me today, thanks for that. You didn't have to but you did anyway."

"It's no problem really, i did start it though." He scooted next to me bringing his knees to his chest resting his head on them. "I'm serious y/n. Thank you."

"You're welcome Connie." I smiled sitting my head on his shoulder. "Do you ever wonder what it would be like if titans never existed. Do you think we would have ever met each other?"

"I'm sure we would have, me and you are best friends. It would be breaking the law if we never found one another." He laughed lightly bopping my head.

My life would be completely different if i hadn't of found him, or any of them. They made my life better in all this craziness, the thought of losing them broke me, so i made it a promise to protect them all.

He rose up waving his hand in front of my face, "Hello anyone in there?" I smacked his hand lightly with a smile. They will experience freedom, even if it kills me. "Let's head to bed. You need some rest." He stood up reaching out for me. I grabbed his hand standing up dusting off my pants.

He slung his arm over my shoulders, "Best friends forever?" He stuck his pinkie out, i looped my pinkie in his. "Best friends forever."
