"Fracking Zombies"

☆☆

Delilah liked to say that she could read people like an open book, she could tell who were the mean girls in school, and the difference between them and the girls who were actually nice, purely based on their facial expressions, however, due to the apocalyptic pandemic, Delilah could barely read anyone any more, sure she knew who was to be trusted and who was not to be, but that was because warren had drilled it into the Carver's heads the second they had stumbled into Camp Blue Sky.

But the look on Cassandra's face with every glance, she was unreadable, knowing that at some time something had happened with the girl's experience, but it had been the same for everyone that was still living in the undead world.

They were still all stood in the cars graveyard, small noises coming from around them, however the loudest bang from the car behind the group made them turn instantly, Delilah's bow gripped with an arrow as she pointed it at where the noise came from. Murphy hid behind the teen yelling 'Whoa' over and over again in her ear, and to everyone around.

"Hold on. It's not a Z" Warren said as she walked over to the shaggy looking man, his arms snapped up in a surrender position as he looked around the group, "Peace. No bites here." The man said as he eyed the three girls, Delilah's grip on her bow tightened yet the grip on the bows string loosened making the man uncomfortable with how easy it would be for the girl to shoot the arrow in between his eyes now.

"What happened to your friend?" Garnett asked as 10k slowly walked over behind the man.

"Turns out he had other friends of low morals. Took my ride. Horse thieves should be shot." He said as Warren took a gun out from his pocket, Cassandra walked forward slightly next, "You should choose better friends." She said as the man looked at her his face dropping as he talked to her.

"What can we do for you? One peaceful group of humans to a lone traveller" Warren said as she held her gun at him, Delilah snickered from behind her "You're making us sound like we will shag him" She said as Warren turned to the teen with a glare.

"Could use a lift. Sure don't want to spend the night out here alone." He shrugged as Murphy started to shake his head from behind Delilah "Sorry. We ain't running a taxi service" The rugged man who held the destiny of all humankind spoke.

"Which way are you headed?" Garnett asked "Any direction but back. Word is there's a horde on the move, south on the new York side. I see you scrounging for gas. You know like we used to say, ass, gas or grass." The guy laughed at his own saying, everyone gave each other slight looks.

He's crazy, Delilah thought as she wiped her forehead as the heat started to get to the girl. Her cheeks reddening with ever second she stood in the light, she never tanned, her skin would just burn and peel.

"Nobody rides for free." Addy said as the man nodded "I know where you could fill up." He says slowly letting his arms drop to his sides.

"Now would be the time to share that information." Garnett spoke, he stood a little further back from Warren, staring at the man intently, "Place called Jersey Devil Refinery, maybe five miles off, just off the turnpike."

"How do you know there's gas there?" Warren asked, "Got overrun day number one. All the tanks are still full, just rusting away." He informed everyone as the group shuffled looking around, Delilah's eyes watching as he scratched at his bearded chin, his eyes wondering back to where Cassandra stood.

"Alright, take us to this refinery, and if there's gas there like you say, you can ride with us to the next outpost." Garnett said as the mans face formed a smug smile, he started to walk forwards slightly as Delilah held her bow up again.
