I woke with my phone still in my hand. I jumped out of bed and showered quickly. I dressed in blue skinny pedal pushers, (Three quarter skinny jeans) yellow strappy top with a yellow and white striped off the shoulder loose fitting top and yellow ballet flats.

Pink started to sing ‘Raise your glass.’

“Hallo.”

“Good morning beautiful. How did you sleep?”

“Well to tell you the truth, I had a good start and then you left and it was the usual until I woke. How did you sleep?”

“Same as you. I am in trouble though. Chris is furious.”

“Tell him I am sorry.”

“I will try. We are leaving for the lake in an hour. I was thinking that we could come to your house and then my mother could drive with your parents and you can drive with me and Chris.”

“Okay. That would be perfect. I will see you them. I need to go help my mother get everything ready. I will miss you till I see you.”

“I will miss you too. Bye.

“Bye.” I got out a yellow sling bag and through my phone, a brush, lip gloss and sunscreen in it and ran down the stairs.

“Emma! What did I say about running down the stairs?” My father was serious this time. “You could fall and Daniel is not here to catch you.”

I walked to the last step and stood in front of my father. “But daddy, you will always be there to catch me.” I jumped from the last step and he caught me.

“Yes pumpkin. So where are you hurrying to?”

“I am going to help mom with the stuff for the picnic.”

“You sleep a little late for that. Your dear mother is just putting on her face, she is done with the prep work and we only need to move the food from the fridge to the basket before we go. Why don’t you go get the picnic kit and put it in the car?”

“Okay.” I ran to the garage and got the kit. The kit is activities that would keep us from getting bored like a swing ball set, a football and a few other things. I loaded it into the car.

I kept busy with a few other things and was just about to text Daniel when I heard the jeep pull up. I ran to the door and I don’t know what I was thinking but as soon as I saw Daniel approaching the house I ran as fast as I could and jumped into his arms. I didn’t notice his mother or my parents or Chris. Daniel and I shared the longest kiss. My dad cleared his throat and I remembered we were not alone.

When my feet were back on mother earth, we slowly turned to our families. They didn’t look very surprised. My mother looked happy. My dad looked like … my dad and Daniels mother looked happy too. The only one I wasn’t sure about was Chris.

“Do you two want to explain?”

It was Daniel who answered. “Sir I can’t remember when exactly, but for about five years I had the need to be around your daughter. I realized about a year ago that our friendship was just a step in the right direction and yesterday I asked her if we could sort of start dating, just to see if that was what we were supposed to be doing. She said yes. We were planning on telling you at the picnic today, but the second I saw her. If she didn’t run first I would have. I think we are still heading in the right direction.” He looked at me and then everyone else. “I would like to ask you all for your blessing.”

Everyone gasped, I did too.

Daniel saw the faces of everyone and realized they misunderstood. “O yeah. We would like your blessing to date, to see where this will take us. Please?”
