The week that followed was one big blur. Sunday morning I woke in Daniel’s arms. He left and I spend the day with my parents. Sunday night Daniel was back and I slept without any dreams, good or bad. Every night Daniel came over and every morning Daniel left. I got my drivers permit and I drove my new Porsche to the mall with my mother.
The next Saturday my father took me out on the yacht. I wasn’t scared but I knew my dreams had nothing to do with actual storms. We had so much fun and my dad taught me a lot that day about sailing.
On our way home, my phone rang. “Hallo.”
“Hi Em.” Daniel paused. “What you doing?”
“Hi Daniel, me and my dad are on our way home. We went sailing. What are you doing?”
“Talking to you, well actually asking if you want to join us for a movie tonight? Smurfs 2 and The grown ups 2 is showing.” After a short silence Daniel continued. “We can watch something else if you don’t want to watch that.”
“Who is going with you?”
“It’s going to be me and Chris. Alisa can’t. I thought it could be like old times.”
“Sure pick me up at seven.”
I ended the call and saw my dad looking at me.
“So, what’s happening between you and Daniel? He has been sleeping in your room and in your bed for days. I am grateful that you are finally sleeping without nightmares, but I don’t like it. If you two are dating again, I need to know about it.”
“Don’t worry dad. Daniel and I are just friends, I am not even sure if you can call it that, but we are not getting back together soon. I don’t need that kind of complication in my life just yet.”
The rest of the ride home was silent. My dad had a way of scaring the crap out of me without saying something and I knew that he meant every breath. I never realized how scary he could be since today. I was happy when he parked the car in our drive way.
I hurried to get out, but he stopped me. “I love you so much pumpkin, but I don’t want you to get hurt. Just be careful okay?”
“Yes daddy, I love you too.” He probably mistook my eagerness to get out of the car away from his scariness for eagerness to get ready for the outing to the movies.
I still had time so I spend a few minutes with my mother and then took my time to choose an outfit. I dressed in a sapphire blue sundress and paired it with blood red pumps and Guess bag. I styled my hair into a low side pony with a little curl and used only a little mascara and lip gloss to finish the look. I took my phone and a few other essential items and placed it into my bag. I grabbed a waist length red jacket for incase. Before I left the room I looked into the mirror and felt satisfied. The dress was casual and the pumps didn’t make the dress more formal, it was a perfect combination.
I went down and saw my dad in his study. “Hi daddy, I’m just here to say goodnight. Daniel would be here soon and you would be in bed by the time I get in.”
“You look pretty. Enjoy yourself tonight and be safe.”
“Thank you daddy I will. Good night.”
“Good night.”
I checked in on my mother where she was busy doing needle work in her tea room. I walked over and took one end of the quilt and looked at it. “It looks really good. I love the colors, it is so peaceful.”
“Thanks baby. You look so pretty. Do you have everything you need?”
“Yes mom, I just came to say good night, Daniel would be here soon.”
