Chapter 9: The truth about us.

I showered and dressed. I decided to wear one of the sundresses my mother got me. It was white with lots of flowers. I wore white ballet flats and my hair was loose. I added some blush and lip gloss. I took my time getting ready.

When I heard the West’s arriving, I boxed the last of the stuff that needed to go to the charities. They have been here for about thirty minutes before I decided to go down. They were all outside by die barbeque area next to the pool.

I stood by the window and watched them from inside the house. Daniel and his dad were standing with my father and talked. He was standing with his back to me so I couldn’t see his face.

Chris was inside the pool with Alisa. I didn’t think that they were still dating. I scanned the pool area but saw no one else except for my mom and Mrs. W. Maybe Daniel’s girl didn’t come with.

I couldn’t go outside. With every step I took it hurt so bad. I went into the kitchen and waited for one of my parents to come in. I didn’t wait long.

“Here you are pumpkin. I was just about to go and look for you. Everyone is outside waiting.” He pulled me into his arms and gave me a hug. “Are you okay?”

“I am scared daddy. Every time someone sees me they run. Mrs. W. saw us in the mall and when she realized that it was me she ran and when Chris saw me earlier he too was shocked. I don’t think that I should go out. What if Da … they react like that again?”

“I don’t think they will. Eva apologized when she got here. She saw you and she was sad and she didn’t want to show you how upset she was.” He took a tray with snacks. “Let’s go outside.” He walked to the door and waited for me to follow.

I followed my dad outside. When we got outside my dad stopped suddenly. “You look beautiful and don’t you forget it.” His voice was a soft whisper and only I could hear him. I whispered when I thanked him and I gave him a smile. My dad walked on. “Look who decided to join us. Everyone I would like you all to meet my daughter.”

I didn’t know why he did that, but it worked. Everyone came closer and introduced them self. Daniel waited till everyone was done.

“Hi my name is Daniel.” He had a huge friendly smile. He was so beautiful. “I think we will be great friends.”

I smiled. “Hi.” That was all I could get out. My dad handed me a soda and I took a sip. I just stood there, I didn’t know what to do or say.

Daniel’s P. O. V.

‘I’m giving her space and time to get used to me again. I know what she needs, but I am scared that she would freak out if I help her too soon. Friends for now and Chris is happy with Alisa. They have been dating for a year and he has realized that he is not in love with Emma. My Emma.’ These were my thoughts as I watched her. She looked so beautiful, a little pale and a little too skinny but beautiful. ‘She is not taking care of herself. She blearily touched her food.’

“Daniel, hey bro … Daniel!” Chris was waving at Daniel to get his attention.

“Yeah, sorry. Did you want something?” I was mesmerized by her. ‘The past year was hell without her. I through myself into my sports and school just to get by. Well, at least I got a football scholarship out of it. UCLA here I come.’

“Hey, lover boy!” Chris was in Daniel’s face. “Mom said you should stop staring, it’s rude.”

“Yeah, I will do it now just give me five.”

“I’m going to help you quick.”

“Thanks.”

The next moment I was in the pool soaking wet. Everyone was laughing, including Emma. I loved the sound of her laughter. I got out of the pool and took a towel to dry down. I checked to see if she was wearing a watch or anything that could be damaged by water and I saw none.
