It is Saturday and the first day of the summer 2012.

Ringtone: Raise your glass by Pink.

“Hallo.”

“Hallo Ems. Are you ready to go?”

“Yes I am. Pick me up in five. Bye.” I toss my cell phone into my beach bag and run down the stairs. “Bye mom, I’m going to the beach with the boys.” I pass the kitchen and wave to my mother.

“Wait a second. Not so fast.” What now. “Do you have sunscreen and a hat?”

“O mother. I love you so. I have everything and money, so you don’t have to worry. I will be back at seven.” I ran before she can stop me again and heard her saying something about breakfast. “We will get some on the way to the beach. Love you mom.”

As I approach the driveway, the yellow jeep pulls up to the curb. Daniel and Chris jumps out not bothering to use the doors. They have the widest smiles on their beautiful faces.

“Morning boys. Excited are we?” They are so sexy. The next second Daniel grabs me bridal style and Chris takes my beach bag from me. Daniel lifts me into the passenger seat and gets into the drivers seat. Chris jumps in on the back seat and almost falls on his face. Everyone is laughing.

“Ems, we need to make one more stop okay.”

“Well Chris as long as it’s for breakfast I don’t care.”

“It’s not for breakfast but we will stop to get some after.”

Something in his look tells me I’m not going to like his answer. “What is at the stop?”

“He met someone.” Daniel looked at his brother trough the rear view mirror and gave him the widest smile. “He snuck out last night and went to some party. Apparently she looks like a goddess.”

“She is so beautiful, blond and voluptuous, just my type.” Chris looks happy about it all.

I can’t believe he has a girl. We have been best friends since we can remember. Chris and Daniel are siblings. Daniel is the oldest, he is seventeen, Chris and I are almost sixteen. If you look at them you would think they are twins. They have dark brown hair and brown eyes and they have a naturally tanned skin. Daniel’s face is a little bit more square / masculine while Chris is sort of more a pretty boy.

I look at myself in the side mirror. I have light brown hair with copper streaks and blue eyes. I don’t have pale skin but it’s not tanned either not even in mid summer.

I sneak a glance at Chris in the mirror. It looks like he can’t wait to see this girl. “So Chris, what is the beauty’s name?”

“Alisa. Angel Alisa.” Chris’s eyes light up with the mention of her name. Take a right here Daniel.” Chris squints his eyes as if to zoom in on the girl standing by the curb.

My eyes follow his and I see her. She is wearing a blue tank, denim shorts and flip flops. Her sunglasses are too big for her face and her legs too long. I can’t look anymore. Her skin is perfectly sun kissed.

As the jeep comes to a stop Daniel gets out and opens the door for her to get into the back. “Hi my name is Daniel and this is Emma.” Daniel points at me and he has his own astonished look.

I smile and nod. “Hi. I just love your shades.” It is not a lie or a sarcastic remark. I do like them, just not on her. I turn back and face the road. I turn the radio on and Miley sings about who owns her heart. The boys have never been in a serious relationship. It has always been more like a group dating thing. On every last Friday of every month we go to the movies. Saturdays is usually movie night at my house or theirs. Monday to Thursday we would all get together and do homework. The other Fridays and all Sundays are family days which we usually spend with our own families and even some of those times we all get together because our parents are friends too.
