After wandering the streets of Gotham, I decided I needed a shelter. I looked for some supplies, but there wasn't much. I found a large cardboard box, maybe from a refrigerator, and that's it. I guess that would have to pass as a shelter.
I then started to look for a place for my shelter. Gotham is a big city with many unseen spots, so that shouldn't be difficult. As I was looking I stumbled over a pile of rocks, each about the size of a small soccer ball. Why the hell do people have so many rocks? We're in Gotham, not Botanical Gardens for gods sake.
I was about to give up and just sleep in the lame box when I noticed a wooden sign on the ground infront of me. It said, "Mattresses, on sale! 50% off!" I looked around and saw a mattress store across the street. I wonder how the sign got here.
I know, I don't nearly have enough cash to buy a mattress, I was planning to spend the night at the store without anyone noticing.
Anyways, I went to go and look at the mattresses when I realized I look like a mess. They'll know I'm homeless and force me to leave! I thought. I have to clean myself up.
I began to walk through busy streets again and I found what I was looking for. I casually walked by the man and when he wasn't looking I snatched his wallet from the pocket of his trench coat.
Yes!
I darted into a nearby ally before the man noticed that he no longer had, lets see, a drivers license, a gym membership card, ooh $78 and some coupons.
I decided to spend $23 on bread, crackers, peanut butter and milk. I spent the remaining $55 on a blue t-shirt and some jeans. I kept my combat boots on because I didn't have enough money to buy new shoes.
I started to head back to mattress store and pretend like I'm going to buy something. Im 13 but I look like I'm 16 so that kind of works out.
As I made my way into the store, I winced, as if I was about to get lifted by my underarms and escorted away from the premises. But luckily that did not happen and I had made it successfully into the place I would soon be asleep in.
I began looking around, seeing if there was anything not too out in the open. I spotted a small mattress that was hidden from the main room by a wall. I decided I would sleep here.
By the time it was closing time I hid under the bed that the mattress was displayed on. A few clerks walked by, but they didn't notice me. All the lights shut down and I knew everyone had gone home. I got up from under the bed and went under the covers. I had a feeling that this would be the best sleep I've had in a while. That was my last thought as my eyes drifted close, letting sleep take over.
