It was this reason that Mikansei was a little slower making her way outside, but made herself concentrate on what was in front of her as she finally left the building. She couldn’t keep her gaze on Sasori for long, feeling a little uncertain and embarrassed at what she had been feeling a moment ago; worried he could sense it on her. Whether he could or not, she didn’t know, as he didn’t say a thing about what he had said and what had happened. He simply continued on as normal, throwing her a glance with a nod as they began to walk off.
But a moment later and he had to twist his head away from them both, hiding a smirk that fluttered onto his face. He was half cursing himself for having just come out with that comment; it was like he couldn’t control whether to keep the thoughts in his head or voice them out loud. However, the other half of him was glad he had said it. He wanted Mikansei to know that he wanted to get closer to her, and she hadn’t tried to protest. When he had looked back, she was frowning, true, but it such a sweet way of uncertainty. Like she didn’t know how to react—like she couldn’t make sense of his words and why he had said them. A little later and he’d talk to her. Wait a while first.
Sasori didn’t notice he was being as logical as he would be in battle; but with a totally different subject.
Realising that Pein had wanted her to go on this mission to get used to using teamwork with Sasori and Deidara, and as such turned to them both and asked quietly,
“Can you tell me about your abilities? If I’m working with you, I’ll need to know how they work to sync my abilities with yours.”
Deidara instantly took the chance to talk about what he could do, jumping in first with an explanation. Pointing out his artwork in many different forms as proudly as he could, he revealed his palm mouths and how he could create sculptures from them, calling them all ‘masterpieces’. Mikansei couldn’t help but notice Sasori rolling his eyes on the other side, something which Deidara didn’t notice in the slightest until Sasori spoke up to retaliate,
“Oh please. ‘Masterpieces’? They’re just ridiculous pyrotechnics that have no meaning. In order to fight a battle, you need weapons that will last. Not explosives that disappear within seconds.”
“Your way of art is the ridiculous one, Sasori-danna. But if you’re so certain that it’s better, why don’t you tell Mikansei about it, un?”
Rolling his eyes once again, Sasori did just that, describing his puppets and showing a few of the battle adaption’s he had added onto them. Then came the elaboration on why they seemed so averse to accepting each other’s abilities. Why Deidara called his sculptures ‘masterpieces’ and Sasori called his puppets the same. Art. They both considered how they fought in battle—what weapons they used in battle—to be art. Of course they were going to disagree, considering bombs were short term and puppets long-term. Deidara was more inclined to respect the idea of Sasori's puppets as a fellow artist than Sasori was, but then Sasori's personality wasn’t in the same sort of league as his own.
Just as they were beginning to get into a rather large argument—though Mikansei had heard that they weren’t as bad as Kakuzu’s and Hidan’s—she jumped in as Deidara began to retaliate to one of Sasori's comments,
“Well, yes, you are opposites in your forms of art. But often opposites work well when placed against each other. You were placed together for a reason, and no doubt that’s because you’re both strong fighters with good abilities, regardless of whether opinions agree or not.”
