Instantly Sasori and Deidara leapt forward; within seconds the guys were dead, nothing compared to the likes of them, and they quickly turned to Mikansei. She frowned, pulling the needle from her neck and looking at the liquid inside, not knowing what it was meant for, only to find her vision swayed, she stumbled forward with a hand to her head, before she finally collapsed at Sasori’s feet, out for the count.
Swearing under his breath, Sasori quickly lunged forward and checked her pulse, swearing again as he whispered out loud,
“It’s slowing down.”
Lifting her bridal style, Sasori quickly turned and left the building, running at full speed to reach the hideout. No one in the Akatsuki really knew medic nin techniques—they never needed them—but once Mikansei’s experiment was finished, she would be immortal. She wasn’t at the moment, but if he could just finish it in time, then her body would automatically heal itself. He didn’t even understand why they had done so in the first place, spitting that out loud, half to himself and half to Deidara, only to find, looking back at him worriedly, Deidara saying,
“They probably thought it was one of those situations where ‘if we can’t have her, no one can’, un. They knew they couldn’t take all of us on, considering Mikansei was starting to fight back, so the only way they could solve it was to try and ki—attack her.”
Gritting his teeth at his avoidance of the word ‘kill’, Sasori tried to speed up, hoping he would arrive at the hideout as soon as possible. Deidara didn’t even know why they were heading to the hideout in the first place, calling out softly,
“Danna, shouldn’t we head to a hospital? We won’t have much to help her at—”
But Sasori snapped his head round, causing Deidara to fall silent, and snarled back at him,
“Nothing any medic nin could do would help—the only thing that can is if we finish what Tanju started. Then she’ll be immortal and it can’t hurt her anymore. The hideout is the only place where she’ll be able to get any help.”
Blinking in surprise, but nodding in acceptance, Deidara went quiet once again as he contacted Leader by mind and told him what was going on. Sasori was fine with that, merely allowing him to concentrate on getting to the hideout and nothing else. Once he was there and Mikansei was alright, then he’d be free to explain everything and anything. But until then, silence was golden and best—talking would only slow him down, something the others gathered as he slammed the door to the hideout open and sped through the corridors, heading straight to his room.
Immediately laying her down on the bed, he grabbed the tools he needed and gently held her arms, instantly starting to finish them off. The others crammed into his room, offering to help or merely watching as it went on, not wanting Mikansei to be hurt after getting to know her, only for Deidara to step in, acting a lot more responsible than anyone had ever seen him before. Calling for everyone to be quiet, he shepherded everyone out of the room. Though some protested *cough* Hidan *cough*, Deidara merely turned round and spat with a glare,
“He needs it to be quiet to concentrate—you keep disturbing him and it will all go wrong, un!”
At that, everyone went quiet, watching silently from the small gap in the door they had left open to see what was going on. Mikansei had returned to consciousness at this point, and seeing where they were and at Sasori working on her arms again, she smirked softly, looking over at him drowsily to say quietly,
“Like you said before, danna….if you finish me…will I be your doll?”
“Only if you want to, Mikansei-kun.” he mumbled in reply, only for Mikansei to quickly retaliate,
“Of course I do, Sasori-sama. But—I—I don’t really know who I am; my personality or feelings…”
Smirking, Sasori glanced up into her eyes and seeing all her emotions there, and remembering all that had happened between them, all the things he hadn’t understood and didn’t know what to do about, he responded with a smile,
“Neither do I—emotions aren’t really my strong point. All I know is that—is that I love you.”
Smiling sweetly at him as he said that, she knew what her body had been thinking of when it had reacted like it had done. The heat in her face, the butterflies in her stomach…she had liked him all along, but it had taken all of this to truly accept that fact. But knowing he felt the same meant everything had been worth it, and as such she replied, whispering now,
“I—”
Waiting to hear her say it back to him, Sasori froze as she said nothing more, and snapping his head up to see what was going on, he saw her eyes fluttering, her mouth trying to say words that her body was too exhausted to say, before they finally fluttered shut as he finished the last part to the experiment. Calling out her name, knowing she was complete and immortal now, he tapped her face a couple of times, but still received no answer. She didn’t wake up, she didn’t move…she just laid there, like all his puppets did.
Now he didn’t know what to do, merely sitting there staring at her face; her body, at the idea that she was gone. It had taken him this long to comprehend what was going on with his feelings; to truly know how to react to Mikansei…and the moment he did, she was gone, leaving him without a clue as to how to react to it. Deidara sighed, sad himself, but knowing it was Sasori who was going to be most affected, let it be, not bothering to go in and comfort him—nothing he could say would be able to make him feel better now.
Something Sasori knew as well, moving forward to hold her body in his hands and stroking her face, realising just how beautiful she looked. He had hidden everything from her, when he should have said something earlier. He should have been with her when she went for that walk; should have been with her when she was trying to figure out her thoughts. Doing it alone didn’t help at all; look what it had done. But if they had talked together…
They wouldn’t be in this position now.
He hadn’t felt like this since his parents had died, feeling the loss of someone close to him even greater than ever, though he had hardened his mind, pushing away emotions and feelings. But clearly it hadn’t made a difference. Trying to be emotionless and get rid of any feelings wouldn’t change a thing; a person that really mattered could break through all of those barriers, and it would hurt just as much as if he hadn’t had them in the first place.
He was thirty five now, but he felt like he was fifteen all over again, and absentmindedly found himself pulling her towards him, nuzzling into her neck in an attempt to get comfort. But even that didn’t help, and just like he had done when he was younger, he attached chakra strings to Mikansei’s body, controlling her arms into hugging him back. He was regressing back to when he was little, he knew that, but it felt like the only way he could gain any comfort from what had happened. It made him feel safe and cared for, and having wanted that from Mikansei to begin with, his breathing accelerated along with his heartbeat. He was clinging to her so tightly, not wanting to let go literally or metaphorically. The feelings rushing around his body were confusing, but overwhelmed him completely, and he merely gave into them wholly.
But he couldn’t even cry.
