Mikansei could barely believe what was happening.
Exactly what she’d been hoping to avoid was coming true—and she was happy with that fact.
She wouldn’t have been normally, but now that Leader and the rest of the Akatsuki had accepted it, they were helping her anyway they could. A few of them had approached her to ask questions, amazed she had managed to go through with it and come out the other side sane and competent, let alone alive in general. It hadn’t really made sense to her at first, but Mikansei soon just answered the questions and let them do so. They were curious and worried about what had happened to her, and Mikansei was not about to protest to that fact.
Leader had then said that their next ‘mission’—or so to speak—for the next few days was to get Mikansei back to her full health…well, considering the effects of the experimenting now were her full health. Although they weren’t going to be doing any proper missions involving killing or finding out information, it was better than something happening to Mikansei during one of those missions and for them all to get injured. So for the moment, Sasori, Deidara and Mikansei were all going to be staying in the hideout—not that any of them were complaining about that fact. Deidara got the chance to experiment with bombs without Sasori trying to get in the way because of that fact, and Sasori and Mikansei?
They wouldn’t admit it, but Deidara knew they were glad they got to spend more time together.
Mikansei’s sleep pattern was pretty unusual, and she barely needed to sleep anymore full stop; so Sasori didn’t think it would take an overly long time to finish it. But Deidara noted that from the moment they surfaced from their rooms, they went and found each other, remaining in each other’s company for the entire day. It didn’t matter whether they were full in conversation or silent understanding, their body language and facial expressions just added up to both of them completely enjoy each other’s company. Sometimes Deidara doubted they even made progress with her body, instead just talking all the while; only when Sasori noticed her wounds once again that he decided to do something about it.
But Sasori didn’t want to push her body to its limits. Tanju had done that enough already for him to suddenly step him and make things worse. He was slightly worried that if he constantly tried to finish off the experiments, her body would overload and she would collapse again. He’d rather it would take a longer time—especially considering he got on so well with her—than for her to be wounded even more than she already was. He had told Pein this fact, and though he was a little annoyed at the break from missions, he admitted it was better than the missions failing, and so agreed to let Sasori take his time—though he wasn’t about to let it go on for months. Though he needn’t have worried. Sasori wanted it done as fast as could to make sure those injuries all over her arms disappeared completely.
Even if he got distracted by conversations sometimes.
A protective and almost caring bond had formed between the both of them, and Sasori couldn’t help but feel he wanted to keep you safe, always wanting to be there to make sure nothing happened to you. Of course, he knew he was being ridiculous and pushed the idea away after a while, letting Mikansei spending time on her own or doing something without him, but he always kept a close eye on her, just to ensure she didn’t collapse again like she had done before. He had been there last time, but he might not be if it happened again—and there was no point dismissing the idea.
