AN: Okay folks, I had a hard time writing the upcoming soccer scene as someone who has never played a game of soccer in her life so take it easy on me :)
Noah
Jake wasn't wrong. I had never attended any of the girls' soccer games because I never really had a reason to but seeing how the first scrimmage team was doing against UMASS made me humiliated to be there supporting Harvard.
Elle and Sabrina had in some way conspired their way onto the same team that was up second in the night. I could see Elle chatting away with Sabrina who was trying to hide the shame on her own face that her team was doing so poorly.
"God when are they going to get it together?" a guy with a buzz cut from the men's soccer team groaned, head in his hands while sitting in one of the rows in front of us.
"I heard the new incoming recruit might be pretty good," another player's girlfriend commented from under his arm.
"I met the Shiela, seems nice," I recognized the Australian accent. I didn't notice come Liam come in since they had come in during the middle of the first game.
"Liam," I said loud enough to make some of the soccer team turn to us. They looked between Jake and I surprised. I could feel Jake glaring at me for getting the attention of our new Australian friend.
"Flynn, Scott," Dan the captain of the soccer team looked at us surprised. Dan was a nice guy, but I'm pretty sure I had pissed off some people on his team before with all my fighting them and making out with some of their girlfriends. I didn't really know where we stood. "What brings you guys out here?" he asked.
I just shrugged.
Jake smiled, always the friendlier one between us, "Special interest in that recruit you were talking about."
Dan's eyebrows went up, searching the field for who it could be.
"I don't think we met properly at lunch," Chloe's voice made Dan turn back around to eye Liam getting up to sit next to Chloe.
"Ah another ex-pat," Liam smiled at her.
She smiled, "Little closer trip for me than you."
"How do you guys know each other?" Dan motioned between us and Liam.
"Flynn's missus introduced us," Liam said smiling at me, "She's up next ey?"
I nodded.
Dan looked to me suspiciously. "You have a girlfriend?" I could see some of the guys in his team exchanging looks. Buzz cut had an annoying smirk on his face. Lover boy and his girlfriend looked smug.
Undoubtedly they had a ton of ideas based on my behavior in the last 6 months. They probably thought I had been a jackass cheating on her the whole time. Or that I had started dating one of the bimbos I would make out with at parties. Or maybe they thought that she was an idiot for being with me, which sometimes I still questioned my luck for getting her back.
I clenched my jaw and Jake cleared his throat.
Chloe spoke up. "She's lovely isn't she?" she directed more at Liam then me.
Liam looked between his team and me, the tension palpable. "She's a beaut!"
He looked at me nervously when my face didn't soften. "Er, I believe in the States that translates to she's cool?" he asked and I gave him a small smile.
"Which one is she?" another soccer player smirked; their eyebrows up at me. I didn't like his face either - he looked like a fish.
Thankfully, a whistle blowing signaling the start of the scrimmage distracted everyone.
