Noah's POV
"Dude I swear to you," Jake urged, his hands up defensively as I got ready for dinner that night. "I had no idea that Rochelle was your Shelly."
I glared at him. "Delete it," I grabbed his phone from my dresser and tossed it to him.
"Seriously?" Jake looked at me disbelievingly, "But what if I need it now that we've all made up as one big happy family?"
My face was enough to convince him to stop talking. "Got it, deleting her number," he clicked around on his phone.
I checked myself in the mirror. Chloe had majorly helped with my wardrobe when I moved out there and I had to say she did a great job. I was wearing a short sleeve striped button up shirt for dinner I would've never picked for myself.
I opened the door for us, looking at Jake still annoyed.
"I mean you always talked about her but you never really emphasized the full hotness of your girlfriend...." He teased. I flexed my jaw and shook my head at him. Pushing the boundaries was kind of his thing. We both walked out of my room to find Shelly standing in her doorway across mine. I'm sure she had overhead that by the blush on her face.
"Ah," Jake made a sound of getting caught, "Looking great Elle," he missed me glaring at the side of his face, before making a lame excuse that he had to help Chloe pick her shoes.
"Errm," a strangled strange laugh came out of Elle's throat. I looked her up and down. She had on a loose camisole tucked into a white skirt, and her hair was down, framing her face. Jake wasn't completely off. She looked beautiful.
"We should get going," she motioned her head to the stairs. I cleared my throat.
"Right," I waved for her to go ahead. Without thinking, I put my hand on the small of her back to lead her, an awkward silence settled in.
"Are you going to tell me about what the guys at school have been doing?" I decided to break the silence.
She looked annoyed at me, stopping mid hallway. "Six months and all Flynn wants to know is who's been stepping on his territory?"
I frowned. I didn't mean to piss her off. "I mean it's not the only thing I want to know ... but you know I could take care of them."
She gave me an indignant smile. "I've managed this time without you walking around threatening anyone who decided to make a lewd comment my way," she was walking again.
"I didn't mean it that way Elle," I tried to correct. Crap, I was crashing and burning here. "I just meant... No one deserves you," I fumbled. If I were on the football field right now I'd probably be second away from getting tackled by a defensive lineman. I braced for impact.
She sighed. "Noah, I know you mean well. I have it under control though, I promise," her hand came to my bicep briefly to drive the promise home. Her hand quickly fell back down, as if it had been burned. I didn't miss her lip getting trapped between her lips a slight blush on her face.
Another pause, I decided I would test the waters.
"Jake was wrong by the way," I said low to her. She looked at me confused.
