"Really shouldn't be out here on your own," a snide voice came from behind me. I felt my goosebumps rise.

I turned to see the figured towering over me, slightly swaying with a glass beer bottle in his hand.

I frowned. "Leave me alone, Perry."

His smirk gave me the chills. "No Flynns around to protect you now huh?"

Perry

I watched Elle get up slowly and a little off balance, undoubtedly to escape me. I winced, realizing that given my previous misdemeanors my joke was probably not taken as joke.

"Wait," I amended, "I didn't mean to sound that aggressive." This was going poorly already.

She looked at me with a classic Elle Evans look. It was no secret that Elle could stand her own with anyone who crossed her path, including some of my own team mates. Whenever she did, it was with the exact look she was giving me: her arms crossed, a disbelieving eyebrow out up at me, a skeptical expression on her face. I couldn't blame her. I was a definitely an ass to her.

"Since when do you care about sounding aggressive?" she shot at me crassly.

I tried to soften my features, feeling a slight sting from the bruises still healing along my jaw from Marco clocking me good months ago.

"I deserve that," I put my hands up innocently. "Believe it or not I didn't come here to wrongfully harass you again."

"I find that hard to believe," the disdain dripping from her voice.

"Completely understandable," I shot back quickly. A look of surprise invaded her features as I tried not to laugh at her shock. I shrugged my shoulders, looking out at the water with a sigh, "I was a real dick Evans."

She scoffed. "Understatement."

I frowned but nodded. "I know," I looked to her briefly forcing myself to make eye contact with her, "Seriously I know."

I could see her having an internal battle with herself, trying to decide if she was going to give me a shot. I really hoped she would, because she was the first person on a long list of apologies I owed.

"You got expelled," she said as if thinking out loud. I barked out a surprised, humorless laugh. I'll give it her, Elle was nothing if not blunt, "Sure did."

She blinked at me, her head tilted to the side curiously. "It was probably the best thing that could've happened to me," I admitted.

Her jaw dropped and I let out a laugh I couldn't hold back. "I know crazy right? But I needed to take some accountability for once. Believe it or not, my parents were unaware of how much a jerk I was being to people."

The look on her face told me she did not in fact believe me. Of course not. We went to a school full of rich kids who were blowing off steam one way or another. Most of the parents of kids at our school were too busy with their businesses, their own torrid affairs, or their own drama to pay any mind to their kids. The Flynns and Evanses were exceptions to that rule. But the truth was... so was I. I had a loving set of parents who would do anything for me and my sister.
