Over 100 years.
Over 100 years since Aven has talked to her brothers. Over 100 years of her brothers thinking their baby sister was dead. Over 100 years of being practically alone. Over 100 years of pain and heartbreak. Over 100 years of hatred and betrayal.
Over 100 years of anger, finally coming to an end.
Maybe.
In 1864, 3 siblings, the Salvatore's lives changed, forever. One more than the others.
Aven Salvatore. She was her brothers' best friend, their perfect, sweet little sister. No one would ever hurt her. Would ever break her. They protected their sister. From everything. From everyone.
At least, that's what they believed.
But we are getting ahead of ourselves...
Stefan and Damon. Damon and Stefan. No matter how much they both loved their sister no one could deny the bond these brothers shared. That was until, Katherine.
Katherine Pierce. Katerina Petrova. Where to start? She was a monster. A manipulator. A murderer. The Devil. But even monsters are scared of something. Have something to lose. She was just scared.
When people get scared they do one of two things; they give up, surrender to the thing they fear, in fear of losing more. Or they build walls. They build walls to protect themselves. They learn. They learn to hurt people before they can hurt them. They learn to be the one people fear instead of being in fear of something bigger. They learn to manipulate. To seduce. To kill. To get rid of guilt all together. They learn to turn their emotions off without actually doing it.
Katherine did the latter. And Aven followed in her footsteps when the choice came.
Aven and Katherine's friendship started out great when the mysterious, beautiful new girl arrived in town. The Petrova messed around with both of her brothers. Aven knew that, she wasn't stupid. At first it bothered her. Her brothers were both in love with the same girl, that was bound to implode at some point. But after she thought about it, she realized that they were doing this to themselves, they were idiots to think it would end well. So, Aven decided to befriend the girl.
That of course, didn't end well either.
She realized this when Katherine decided to tell her a secret.
Aven had known about vampires and the whole supernatural thing for a couple years after she overheard her father and one of the townspeople talking in his office about a murder that happened in Chicago. So, she wasn't completely in disbelief when Katherine told her she was basically a walking corpse.
Giuseppe Salvatore. Damon, Stefan and Aven's father. If you think they're monsters, you ever think of where they got it from?
Aven went to her father's study every Sunday at 11 p.m. To do what exactly? Whatever he wanted.
It depended on how "good" she was that week. If she didn't cause any trouble she got to "have fun" is what he called it. She called it rape. The reality being the latter. And if she was "bad" that week and did something "disrespectful" she got hit. It was simple logic really, to a psychopath that is.
She quickly learned she preferred getting hit, so she'd be "bad" every week, she'd flirt with boys and talk too much. She soon stopped doing that once he threatened her brothers.
Their mother died, she didn't have any friends and if she told her brothers he'd hurt them, or worse. So she kept quiet. She went along with it. She obeyed. For her brothers' sake.
That was until Katherine.
Katherine noticed almost instantly something was wrong. Of course, when she asked Aven she didn't tell her, willingly that is. When she found out, she compelled their father to never lay a hand on Aven again, completely forgetting about Damon and Stefan. That mistake would later come and bite them in the ass.
