Mr. L and Mario took their conversation out to the woods, barely noticing anything going on around them. "Just listen Mr. L. Really, it's nothing personal. I just-" "OH, NOTHING PERSONAL?? IT SURE SOUNDS PERSONAL. YOU JUST CAN'T ACCEPT THE FACT THAT WE'VE CHANGED." The two continued to argue and argue and argue, when they heard screams coming from the town. Loud, horrified screams.
"Someone's in trouble." Mario said. This caused Mr. L to roll his eyes and scowl. "No, no no. You don't get to just leave mid conversation and go be a hero." Mario looked over at him. "Look, I'm sorry okay. I just don't want you guys betraying my brother. I don't want you hurting him." Mr. L glared at him. "You just don't trust us. You think you're the good guy and we're the bad guys. We've all changed, why can't you accept that??" Mario glared back. "Because-" Mario stopped there. Mr. L smirked. "Can't think of an answer, can you?"
Mario sighed. "I'm not as forgiving as Luigi. I can't forget what you guys have done in the past. I just can't. I remember when Dimentio sprouted him and used him to become Super Dimentio. I remember when Dimentio manipulated him into bringing you two back. And while Luigi is able to forgive you guys for that, forgiveness doesn't come as easy for me." Mr. L turned and gave a frustrated look. "It's Luigi's life, and I'm sure he appreciates you trying to look out for him, but you have to let him fight his own battles. We aren't going to hurt him."
Mario sighed. "I can't be sure of that. I'm sorry." He turned and charged towards town, ready to help whoever was screaming. Mr. L quickly chased after him. "Hey! I'm not finished with you!" Mr. L chased Mario to town when Mario suddenly stopped, causing Mr. L to run into him. "Hey, Why'd you stop-" Mr. L looked around and saw bodies. Lot's of bodies. All over the town.
Mario stood there in shock. "W-what happened here??" Mario asked. Mr. L stepped forward. "Who did this?" He didn't know anyone who would do something like this here. Mario crossed his arms. "Gee, I don't know. Who's the most powerful person we know."
"No. Don't blame this on him. He didn't do it." Mr. L said, now annoyed. Mario rolled his eyes. "Who else in this Kingdom is capable of this? It couldn't have been you, I was with you. And Bowser is still being watched under surveillance," Mr. L turned and snapped, "IT WASN'T HIM, I KNOW HIM. HE DIDN'T DO THIS! WHY DO YOU IMMEDIATLY BLAME HIM, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?? DIMENTIO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS." Mr. L's hands were glowing, green electricity circling his fingertips. He looked down, and made the sparks vanish, before grabbing Mario's arm and pulling him along. "Watch, we're gonna go to my house, and see Dimentio peacefully sitting there. I promise, he is not responsible for this."
Mr. L quickly took Mario and marched up the hill to his home. "Dim? You in here?" There was no response. "Dim?? I need to see you" Mr. L began to worry. How could he prove Dim's innocence if he wasn't here? Where did he even go? Mario laughed. "See, I knew it." Mr. L turned around. "It wasn't him. I know it."
Mr. L and Mario made their way outside. Mario started mumbling to himself. "I knew it. I knew we should have locked him up. Poor Luigi is going to be heartbroken. This will crush him." Mr. L quickly turned to him. "SHUT UP! IT WASN'T DIM!" Mario crossed his arms. "I bet he used Luigi to get back the Dark Prognosticus, and then he went and did this." Mr. L was having enough of Mario. "HE DIDN'T DO THIS! IT HAS TO BE SOMEONE ELSE!" Mario quickly snapped back. "OH YEAH?! THEN WHO??"
Mr. L looked down. "I don't know. But it wasn't him." Mario glared at him, "Oh, come on. Who else could pull something off like this?" Mr. L was about to yell back, when he saw a dark figure leave the Mario Bros' house down at the bottom of the hill. Mr. L quickly shushed Mario and crouched down so whatever it was couldn't see him, then whispered, "wait, do you see that?" Mario looked down, to see a dark figure leaving his house and heading back towards the castle. A confused expression swept over Mario's face. "Who, what is that?" Mr. L shrugged. "Perhaps that is what murdered all those toads in town." Mario's expression quickly shifted from confused to worried. "Wait, IT JUST LEFT MY HOUSE! THE DARK PROGNOSTICUS IS SOMEWHERE IN THERE!"
