Chapter 1 life in town

Vera's P.O.V

I was sleeping under the covers of my own bed until the sunlight began to shine through my bedroom window. I slowly blink open my purple eyes and let out a tired yawn.
"It's morning,'' I Muse as I groggily get out of bed, making sure to tidy it back up right away as I nicely pull the covers back over my two pillows.
"There that should do it." Then I padded to my bedroom door and pulled it open slowly, being careful not to squeak, in case it would wake my brother up. Shade an Umbreon's bedroom was down the hallway not far from mine.
I padded past slowly making my way towards the bathroom.
I'm Vera by the way and I'm a shiny Vaporeon.
My brother and I have lived here for some time now. It has been about 16 years since our parents left us in the storm. We still never found out what happened to them, if they died or just simply couldn't find us, Shade had been looking after me ever since but luckily for us, we came across this town and we were able to get a house together after making a promise to buy it in the future with the owner who was very considerate enough to allow us to stay until we're old enough to start making payments towards the house.
I finally get to the bathroom and close the door, being sure to lock it, before jumping into the shower and turning on the hot water.
I let out a soft moan as the water began to run, splashing down my body. I love taking showers, I also love sitting in the bathtubs sometimes to enjoy the warm water.
I grab my scented bar of soap and begin washing, loving the smell of it, then once I'm done I rinse off then shut the water off and pull the curtains open so I can reach out to grab a towel off the towel rack wrapping it around myself as I slowly step out and dry off.
Once I'm dry enough I open the door and pad out my ears perked up a bit as I could hear loud music coming from my brother's room telling me that he must be awake now. Shade always listened to loud music every now and then, especially heavy metal.
I shake my head feeling a bit annoyed as it usually is always annoying sometimes we even get complaints from our neighbours.
'I don't get why he has to have it so loud...It's not like music can make you tough.'
I go downstairs, we live in a two-storey house. Upstairs are our two bedrooms and the bathroom and downstairs is where we have a living room and kitchen.
Right at the bottom of the stairs is our living room and where the front door is.
As I got to the bottom of the stairs I walked through the living room towards the kitchen.
As I opened a covert to look for ingredients to make something, suddenly there was a knocking at the front door.
-knock-knock
I freeze, feeling nervous as I never want to answer the door. This town has a few weirdos in it and by weirdos I mean creepy.. me being the only shiny in town has been drawing us a lot of attention lately, I noticed when I'm out, a lot of mons always like to stare or whisper it always made me feel a bit on edge.
Luckily for me, my older brother is very protective and would always confront others about it if he caught them staring.
Then the door knocked again and at once I could hear my brother upstairs as his music shuts off and he comes pounding down the stairs.
"Don't answer it! I got it!" He said in his big brother's voice as he pulled the door open with ease.
I breathed a sigh of relief as I saw who it was.
A Cinderace named Flitz who we know as our Homeowner.
Shade looked a bit nervous "Ohhhhh hi Flitz.... music too loud?.."
He crossed his arms "Yes I'm afraid so, but that's not why I'm here may I come in?"
Shade pulls the door open wider allowing
the Cinderace to enter.
He looked at me then back at my brother. "So, you're both doing quite well and that's always good to see. But I think it's about time to ask that you start making payments towards the house."
I instantly frown while waiting to hear the words I dread the most "I think it's about time you two got ourselves some jobs... but don't worry I am always willing to help there are lots of shops that are always hiring."
I sighed I didn't wanna work in this town. I could already picture it in my head.
'All the weirdos are gonna harass me, just great.'
Shade nodded. "Heh well sounds good I guess it's a bit overdue hu?"
Flitz nodd... "A bit yea... I just wanted to wait for you to be at least sixteen, which you both are."
As much as I didn't want to I had to force a smile on my face because I didn't wanna seem ungrateful in front of Flitz, he had been so kind to us and allowed us to stay in this house all this time because he felt pity for us when we first arrived in town Eevees.
"Ok, thank you Flitz we'll start looking.."
He smiled "Great and I trust in good time you'll be able to get it fully paid off... but if you do ever have any trouble just come talk to me I'm Always around."
Then he went for the door "Good luck you two and enjoy your day." Flitz was always a really cheery kind of guy; it made me laugh sometimes.
I watched as he went skipping down the road in his happy mood.
Shade grunted as he closed the door "Alright sis you heard him, time to head out and look for jobs." I frowned "umm... er but I was going out with my friends."
He shook his head "Not today guess I'll just hit the gym later heh good thing they're open all night."
I frowned as he grabbed his gym bag and placed it by the door.
'I'm not sure I like the idea of being home alone at night.'
Shade always goes to the gym everyday for a few hours in the morning. It's his daily routine while mine is to go out and have coffee with my friends at our favourite coffee shop.
Shade nudged me "Hey, I know, why not get a job at the coffee place you like?" I frowned, shaking my head. I didn't want a job.
"Ugg, no that's not a good place for me to work"
"Well sis rather we like it or not it's life. just gonna have to suck it up."
Then he opened the door "Can't we just do it later?.... like in the afternoon or something?"
I questioned feeling irritated about not meeting up with my friends.
'They're probably there already waiting for me wondering what is taking so long,
He shrugged "alright then." He grabs his gym bag "Well I'm off to the Pokemon gym, gonna work on my moves and strength!" He declared looking proud.
Then he nudged me "Just stay out of trouble. and if anything goes wrong.."
"Yea, yea. I know." I say cutting him off.
"come running straight to you I get it you're the toughest Mon in town.
'Or so you think.'
He nodded "alright talk to you later then!" Then he ran out the door with his gym bag over his shoulder, as I walked outside suddenly I heard an annoying voice I know all too well as our neighbour.
"Why good morning Vera, looking beautiful as always." I turned my head over to see a male Espeon watching me from his front porch.
"Oh, umm yea.... good morning Solstice."
He smiled at me "Where are you off to?... going out with your friends are you?"
I felt myself turning red as it was always really awkward when he tried to talk to me.
'Why can't he just leave me alone?'
He padded down his front spets to slowly approach me with a smile on his face. "Hmm well, maybe when you get back you might wanna grab some lunch with me?"
I frowned "Oh, umm that sounds nice but actually, I gotta go job searching with my brother." There were a few awkward moments of silence and I kinda wanted to get going.
"Ok, so bye then." Then I turned on him and started speed walking away but of course, he ran after me. "Vera, wait!" I ran faster than I caught up to my brother who turned around at once. "Solstice! Are you bothering my sister again?" He asked in a stern tone. The Espeon froze looking a bit worried "I just wanted to talk to her... that's all.."
The Umbreon squared his shoulders looking ready to fight. "Well, she's not interested in you now go!" The Espeon pinned his ears back looking annoyed with the Umbreon but didn't argue any further, He lifted his head up high then smirked at me. "Perhaps some other time then have a wonderful day." Then he turned around and ran back home.
I hugged my brother "Thank you Shade."
"Hey I'm always gonna be around to make sure no Mon bothers you." Then he narrowed his eyes as he glared at Solstice's house. "It's just a shame that he has to live right next to us, I hate that Espeon!" He muttered in an angry tone, I hugged him one last time before padding off. "Alright see you later brother!" I called as I ran off heading towards the coffee shop.
Once I arrived I spotted my friends sitting at a table. I have two friends, one is a Sylveon named Kaylee and the other a Glaceon named Rea.
"Kaylee, Rea I'm here!" I called out as I went to join them sitting at the table. "Vera almost thought you wouldn't make it" Rea said sounding a bit worried then Kaylee smiled "So how is your neighbour? Have you guys gone out yet?" That question made me mad. "Eww! No way am I going out with him!"
"Oh?... why not?" She asked, "I know he likes you." She teased which kinda annoyed me "Ugg He's a creep every time I try to leave the house he's always there I'm sure he sits outside on his porch just waiting for me to come out.."
Rea looked a bit concerned. "That is kinda creepy you'd better be careful."
Kaylee frowned "Well I think you should give him a chance, he seems like a nice guy.."
I rolled my eyes "No, never gonna happen, why don't you go out with him if you like him that much?" She shook her head "Na he's not really my type."
I poured myself some coffee and added some sugar and cream to it and took a small sip enjoying the morning sun.
Rea purred with amusement "You seem happy today.. anything new?" Now I had a frown on my face as I let out a deep sigh. "Ugg... I have to get a job so I can pay for the house."
Rea raised an eyebrow "So?... Having a job isn't that bad. I work at one of the shops and I make lots of poke coins."
I frowned letting out a deep sigh "I suppose you may be right.." Kaylee started laughing "Haha you'll never catch me with a job that's for working suckers."
Rea looked annoyed and I instantly knew why Kaylee still lived with her parents and they bought her everything.
'One day they're gonna kick her out.'
I thought as I sat back in my chair then noticed a few Mons sitting at a different table looking at me.
I felt embarrassed right away and looked the other way not wanting to make any eye contact by accident then a little Pichu yelled. "Hey, momma look! That Vaporeon is purple!"
"Shhh it's rude to point!" The mother scolded the kid.
My face turned red. I hated being shiny because it always drew attention to me and I was not one for the crowd.
Kaylee sighed "Oh sometimes I envy you it must be nice getting all that attention." I shook my head "Not really."
Rea let out a tired yawn as she finished her drink "Well nice talking with you but I really should be going I gotta to get to work.."
Then she padded off leaving me alone with Kaylee who smiled at me. "So, has your brother by any chance ever asked about me?"
I frowned. I was aware that Kaylee had a huge crush on my brother but I was pretty sure Shade wasn't really interested in her.
I just shrug my shoulders feeling awkward "Err... not really." Then my frown deepens when I see a familiar Espeon enter the café.
"Hmm, let's see. I spy with my little eye someone Beautiful" Then as his purple gaze scanned over the cafe I ducked down but there wasn't really anything to hide from me. He smirked at me as he spotted me and I instantly got creeped out.
"Run!" I yell and pulled Kaylee with me as we made a break for the exit and left the shop, we hid behind a jewellery store and Kaylee looked a bit annoyed "Look if you don't like him why not just tell him?"
"My brother keeps telling him and he never listens!"
The Sylveon rolled her eyes "Because you need to tell him. He probably thinks you might like him if you never talk to him.."
I gritted my teeth "I'm always trying to get away from him shouldn't that make it obvious?"
She shook her head "Nope... he's gonna keep trying until you finally find the courage to tell him no." I frowned thinking she may just be right. Then she patted me on the back with one of her feelers. "Look, I'll Talk to you later, I gotta get home before lunchtime."
I watched as she padded away leaving me alone.
I usually like to spend time on the beach when I'm alone but remembered that I have to get a job somewhere.
I sighed looking up at the sun.
'I suppose I should go find my brother so we can look.'
I make my way towards the gym but meet him halfway there, "Sis there you are! great let's begin our job Search.." he says with full confidence. "Someone is very confident..."
He smirked "I was talking to my buddies at the gym and they said they have an opening for a coach, they're gonna let me know tomorrow if I got it or not '' I felt a little better knowing at least one of us is going to be making some Poke coins.
We were walking by a few shops searching for a help wanted signs, then finally spotted one, a shop that sells rare items like evaluation stones or certain items that some Mons would need to evolve.
Shade smiled "You'd Make lots working here let's see if they'll take you.."
We entered the store and I gasped as I spotted lots of nice things that were pricey.
Then a Delphox greeted us "Welcome, how may I be of Service to you?" She asked and I got really shy instantly. My brother nudged me "Well go on, ask her.."
The Delphox looked at me "Ask me what?... Is there something in particular that you're looking for?"
I gulped "n..no ma'am... I'm looking for a job and saw the sign outside."
She raised a brow as she looked at me "Hmmm have you ever sold anything before?" I shook my head "n..no this would be my first time."
She held my gaze. "I hope you're not going to be this shy every time a customer walks through the door.."
'Think I screwed this one up... but I'm not sure if I really care or not.'
Then she grabbed my paw and shook it. "I'd Like to see you start first thing tomorrow."
I felt shocked by that. "Hu?... you mean I actually got it?"
She nodded "I could use a shiny to sell rare things... I'll even help you out since it's your first day." I smiled.
'maybe having a job won't be so bad after all.'
My brother was happy.  "All right then we're off." He said.
We padded out together. "Good job sis you got it, I just hope I'll hear good news on my end now.." I smiled but at the same time, I was a bit nervous.
'I just hope it goes well tomorrow'
